Does this count as a suicide attempt? (Possible Triggering Details Inside)
So this happened about a year ago and I was wondering if it actually counts as an attempt so I know what to tell my therapist. Yes, I'm just now thinking about telling her about this. Anyways here's what happened:
I had an old jump rope from my childhood, fashioned some sort of noose out of it, threw it over a door, closed the door, locked the door, and sat on the counter with the noose around my neck. Eventually I decided to just do it, do something.
My feet were still kind of touching the ground but I started to black out pretty fast. My ears started to ring and my eyes felt like they were gonna pop out of my head. I panicked- even though I wanted to die. I sat back up on the counter again. Eventually my parents picked the lock on the door and just saw me sitting there with a noose around my neck, I didn't tell them that I had done anything.
I don't know if I can even call what I did an attempt because I didn't go through with the entire thing. I stopped it before I could even lose consciousness. What do you even call that? Yes, I did what I did fully intending to die but panicked before any damage could be done.

Hello, my name is KatMae and I am one of many listeners here at 7Cups! Although 7Cups does not have the proper training to handle suicidal chats, I am glad to hear you are speaking with a therapist who does. Talking to anyone, even a therpist, about your feelings requires trust towards them. If you now feel comfortable enough to talk about it then that's what matters most, not the time frame of when it occured. If you went into this with the mind process of bringing harm to yourself, that would be considered a suicidal thought which leads to attempts such as this. Please talk to your therapist about it and see what they have to say as 7Cups can only provide so much regarding the topic of suicide :) <3

Hey there! Thank you for opening up and sharing this with us! I believe whether it counts as an attempt depends on your intention at the time. Were you wanting to die? The intention is everything. Either way, I am glad that you are going to bring it up to your therapist! I look forward to you updating us to let us know how it went.
Also I edited your thread Title to add a trigger warning
