Emotional effects of anti depressants
hi I'm going to start anti depressants (just got a referral so idk what kind) and I already know about the physical side affects but what have yalls experiences with mood changes please say what type you take/took and if you have them other mental illnesses or disorders thanks hope you're well
SSRIs can make emotional symptoms worse for the first couple of weeks. It’s really hard at first (or it was for me) but they’ve also really helped me
@unassumingGrapefruit3318 once they started helping how did they help?? like I'm struggling to understand what happens that makes you less depressed as I don't see a separation between me just living and depression yknow?????
It’s subtle at first. I started sleeping better. In some ways I had more energy. I started being able to pull myself out of spiraling thoughts. The lows weren’t quite as low. I started to function. And even started to have good days
@dragonpiss I agree with @unassumingGrapefruit3318 — the most common antidepressants (SSRIs) can make things worse for a while, before making things much better. There's some evidence young people need to be more careful than older people, when starting SSRIs.
Also, SSRIs are only one type. There are several other types you can try, if SSRIs don't suit you for some reason.
At 7 Cups we are not allowed to make specific recommendations or give medical advice, though. It's better to have this discussion with the professional who prescribes the antidepressants for you.
