Every day is a test
I'm a student back home (against my will). I've been spending the past 2 months with my abusive mother and no access to the medication I used when I was in university in the UK. The past few weeks have been a vicious cycle of coping with suicidal thoughts and drinking to cope. I'm at my wit's end waiting for a visa and I can't afford a therapist or go to a counselor while I live with my parents. So I'm turning here for some advice. How would you pass time and stay sane when the only thing holding you together is the vague hope of escape?
Drinking alcohol won't help because alcohol is a depressant. It'll make you feel worse. I quit drinking a long time ago because it didn't add anything positive to my life. If you can't afford therapy I'd suggest using 7cups for support. This is a really good place for that. There are listeners you can talk to for free and the forums are good too. Do you have friends you can talk to? I'm sorry you're stuck in this situation and I hope you can get out as soon as possible.
The days must seem so long. But you are headed in a good direction. The visa is going to come through and you are going to find the help that you need.
One thing that really helped me was each day trying to do a little bit towards that future goal. Then the goal couldn't just disappear. Even simple research helped.
Another thing is getting outside when you can. It really helps to reset your brain. Other hobbies are also great. @TinyCat74
