Going through the motions

Lately I find myself just going through the motions of things, not really being present in my own life. It's like a never-ending cycke that I can't seem to break free from. I don't find enjoyment out of things like I used to. I don't care about the things that I should. I close myself off from people in my life because I don't want to burden them with my problems. But I'm getting to the point where it's difficult to keep it together. I keep asking myself what the point to anything is anymore. I'm finding it hard to hold on to that last bit of hope that things might actually get better eventually. That things won't always be this way.

Hey lostinthemusic, I'm really sorry to hear that you've been struggling lately. Depression can definitely make us feel isolated and separate from our environments. You said sometimes you get bogged down in your thoughts, and you ask yourself 'what's the point', or that it's hard to believe things will get better. Depression can really suck that way. I also want to point out how corageous it was to share what's going on with you when so many times it can feel easier to keep it to ourselves, and that you are not a burden for sharing this.

When my depression leaves me feeling hopeless or helpless, I try to remember times in the past where I didn't feel that way, and tell myself that I can get there again. Try to hang in there and look for the little positive things from each day. By no means will it 'fix' what you're going through, but I find sometimes it makes it just a little easier. I'm rooting for you!

@Carly23

Thank you for your kind words and encouragement. It has definitely helped to try to focus on the small things from day to day as to what's been good about them and finding joy/happiness in the small victories even if they don't seem like they're that big of a deal. I apologize for getting back to you so late, definitely been a ringer off a week, but getting a little better day by day. Hope you are doing good well!
