How do you talk to people?

Who do you talk to when you're feeling low and how do you start a conversation like that? On Thursday I had a breakdown in front of my teacher and he kept asking what was wrong. Since then, I've been thinking that it might help if I actually spoke to someone about how I feel instead of pretending I'm fine until I am. The problem is I have no idea who to talk to or how on earth I could start such a personal conversation.

One way is to choose someone who is used to having conversations like that. Someone who will not keep asking what is wrong.

Examples of people you could choose include counsellors and therapists, some doctors, some religious leaders (if you are religious, or maybe even if you are not), staff on telephone helplines of various kinds, and many of the listeners here at 7 Cups.

One way to start the conversation is to say exactly what you wrote here. Just the last line would be enough. You could write it down and read it out, if you like. Someone who is used to having conversations like this will immediately know how to continue.

I only talk in a honest way how I feel with people I trust.

If it's just a random friend or colleague I might say "not having such a good day" but I try to smile and talk about positive stuff. It isn't their fault I'm not feeling well, so I find unfair me putting that weight on them.

But if it's someone close I do open up and say how I feel in detail.
