I can't get out of my own head

Hey everyone,

My bf of 3 years, whom I had been living with for the past year, decided about a month and a half ago that he wanted to go on a "break". He has told me several times that it's not related to me, that he lives me and intends for us to stay together, but that he needs time alone to figure out the rest of his life.

I love him more than anything. I never really believed in "true love" or "the one" or any of that until I met him. My entire world view changed. You know how they say, "when you know, you'll know"? Well, I knew..pretty much from day one.

I want to support him through this time. I want to be here for him and I want so badly for this all to work out. But I'm terrified. He's not just the love of my life, he's my best friend..my only friend.

But I'm losing my mind. I have had major mood swings, terrible anxiety, and if I don't keep myself busy, my thoughts spiral out of control and scare me. I cry all the time now, especially since it's the holiday season. I cannot get out of my head. I'm losing control. I'm scared.

Hello and thanks for sharing your story with us.

I'm so sorry to hear that you're having difficulty getting your thoughts back under control. It sounds absolutely terrifying to think that your best and only friend (and partner) has asked for a break and you're not totally sure of what will happen next. I think it's wonderful that you're keeping yourself busy, as it's a pretty key part of staying functional and not letting your thoughts get the better of you. If you're interested, 7cups has some self help guides on how to manage these thoughts. Perhaps the anxiety or getting unstuck guide can help you handle your thoughts. https://www.7cups.com/supportGuides/selfHelpGuides.php All the best!
