I don't know what to do
Hello I'm new here. I've recently started my college. I'm studying Bech civil engineering in one of the top private colleges in Kolkata, India. But after going to college for a few weeks i feel like it's not for me,both the course and the people there. They're a lot different than me.And i don't understand the subjects that well.so I'm really scared to go.
Before joining this college, I got chance in another college which was a government college . But it was diploma in civil engineering and i didn't want to take it, mostly because at that time i wanted to study btech only and there was also the thing that i didn't want to study something lesser. But my parents and sisters suggested to get admitted in that one, to think things through since it's a private college and we are a middle class family. But i insisted to get admitted here.
Yesterday I couldn't take it anymore and came back home after the first class. I ended up crying the whole day. I talked with my parents and sister. At first they were blaming me saying it was my decision. And it was, so I can't even deny it to make myself feel better. But later my sister said she would talk to some people from the other college to see if she can somehow enroll me there(she is a pass out from there). She talked to my parents too. And they agreed.
But I feeling really guilty. I don't want my parent's money to go to waste, when i was the one that rejected the chance when i had it. I'm feeling really helpless.
@NeonPeachxxx I'm really sorry to hear this
sometimes we can't always find people and place that suits us and we feel uncomfortable and unhappy there. You sound really frustrated. I won't give you any advice but I just want to say that you're not alone.

Hi. That's quite a difficult situation to be in. It probably feels like the end of the world at the moment but it isn't.
It's going to be stressful to deal with your parent's criticism or negativity on the matter but try to be kind to yourself as much as possible. Don't blame yourself or kick yourself over this. Instead start looking for solutions. You know, a lot of people enter programs and end up switching others years into their studies. There's nothing wrong with that. And frankly, its better to note your dislike of the subject earlier than later because the stakes might be higher down the line.
College isn't an easy transition by any means. It's overwhleming. You have just started so you need to be easy on yourself. Usually first classes are not good indicators of what the course will be like. Give it a chance. Things may turn around. At the same time, you can talk to counselors. I'm not sure if this service is provided by all colleges but there are usually counselors who provide help and assistance to people in a position similar to yours. They help them decide what might be a path closer to the student's liking and help you learn more about the course. You can also try to talk to the professor about your concerns. Since you're already enrolled, I think that it will actually be easier for you to switch programs within the college than first-admissions. You're already enrolled so you should be proud of yourself.
Finally, while it may not seem this way at the moment, a wise man once said (I believe it was Alan Watts): there is no wrong or right decision, you just have to deal with the consequences of your decisions.
Everything will be ok.
