I don't want to take medication

Hello! I have been struggling for over a year now with what i assume to be depression. I've not been diagnosed. I don't have money for therapy and i don't want to be on medication, as i am generally anti medication unless it's absolutely necessary. I don't find joy in anything anymore. It started a few months after moving to a new city. I find everything to be a chore now...taking a shower, brushing my teeth, cooking, cleaning. It's all too much work. I have no motivation for life. I used to love jogging and working out, but now i have no energy for that even though i know it would help. The fact that i have to walk to the gym sounds too exhausting. I get up and go to work every day because i have too, but i look forward to the weekends, not because i have big plans, but because i just want to lay around and do nothing. I'll even take days off just so i can lay on the couch all day watching tv. My friends don't seem to take me seriously. I think they just think i'm not trying hard enough to have fun.

So my question is....how can i get myself motivated without medication? I am stuck in this city for another 18 months. I can't spend the whole time laying around getting fat on the couch (oh yeah, i also constantly shove food in my mouth, because i just don't care, nothing matters).

I know what you mean and I'm here. Some mornings I have enough trouble getting up to hit my alram, let alone get out of bed. I always just hope it is a funk that I'm going through and it'll pass soon. Five years and it's still going but hopefully someday we will both be able to wake up and smile...

My advice to you is, even though you may not feel up to it, reach out to someone. Find somebody to talk to about anything and everything. I am here, along with so many other people on this site. And I'm sure your friends, if they are good friends, will be willing to listen to you talk about whatever you want. Just find someone who listens.

Another piece of advice, drink lots of water to keep you hydrated. It shouldn't be very hard to get water as long as you have a tap. Drink as much as you can.

Try taking a bath instead of a shower. Lots of bubbles, if you can't buy some then put in a little bit of your shampoo right by the tap when you start it and that will form bubbles.

Everyday, try to go outside. Even if it is only for 15 minutes, sit outside and feel the air and sunlight, even if there isn't any.

Listen to music. Songs that make you happy and, if you feel up to it, invite some people over to dance around. The energy in the room will definitely help you.

And lastly, my piece of advice, is to remember that there are always people out here in this huge world to talk to and you are loved very much. I may not know you at all but after reading your post and being able to relate to it, my love for you stretches out to you.

Remember, always, that you are loved.
