I'm not good at coping and could use advice

Recently I've been mad at myself because i don't think I'm depressed and think I'm being overdramatic, but that's because i can't feel anything. Any joy, major sadness, much anger, all of my emotions are just dull and empty. So i feel like I'm lying and I'm not really depressed even though I've been diagnosed multiple times. I tried to cut so i could feel something but all that caused me was embarrassments and guilt. I usually draw or sleep to cope, but I'd love suggestions

I go through these same thoughts. I have been diagnosed with depression and anxiety and I take pills for the same. But there are times when I feel like I am being over dramatic and what if I am seeking attention. As you said, I don't experience any emotions other than feeling empty even though I come off as the brightest person ever. Because I always smile when I talk to people, even to people who have done me wrong. I feel like an empty shell when I come back to my room and I crave for someone to just give me a damn hug and all I wanna do is cry.

But for the past 2 weeks, I have been making conscious decisions to do certain things. I started going to the gym or walks if I can't make it to the gym that day. I feel focused there. I also started learning guitar at the time my breakup happened and I was hurting. My therapist suggested me to learn something new which could give me a sense of accomplishment. I tried a lot of things like learning new languages, caricature drawing, sewing and what not. But this worked the best and I can see the difference now that it's over 4 months since it happened. So I'd say you tap into what you might really enjoy learning and take it slow. Week by week you will feel like you have achieved something. I also like to paint. So I just randomly paint in my drawing book when I feel my emotions going down that path or I see my ex with his new girl. Also, I am working on keeping a journal to monitor my emotions and behaviour. I haven't been able to do it regularly. That's my next goal. Also, music helps. Like that's the saving grace in my life.. Make a playlist of songs you enjoy. You won't regret it.

But I can tell you one thing, you are not being over dramatic. Your fewlings matter and I believe in you. I know you can pull yourself out of this. Keep going!!

Hey buddy, your feelings are valid. Having depression doesn't necessarily mean that you have to feel "sad" all the time. Its normal to experience dull emotions or absolutely nothing at all and feel like you're living on an auto-cruising mode. Remember, there is no right or wrong way to feel about something. Life itself is hard and many people find themselves dissatisfied with what their life is like in the moment.

While you sought out to self harm, the best it could ever do is to provide you some comfort for short term period. :(

You could be experiencing depression due to many reasons that you might not be able to see clearly right now. Since depression is what seems to be driving such thoughts of yours, I would suggest that you reach out to a listener or a therapist and work your way through things which are making your life less enjoyable than what it can be. <3
