Hi everyone. I am a 20 year old male in college and I have no friends. My depression has become a really huge issue. Going into my freshman year I felt like I couldn't find my place in a group and it made me sad. I met a girl and we started dating which was great, but I got to meet all of her friends while I really had none to show for amd that stressed me out. I made a friend in one person that wasnt really a friend at all. He left after this year anyways so my sophomore year I felt like such a loner. It was a year of never wanting to do anything or talk to anyone. And now, as a junior, things are at an all time low. I feel like I have no friends, but also dont act like I want any so I get why people dont approach me. I hate myself so much. I feel like the relationship I am in isnt working anymore but at the same time she is there for me and the only realy person that makes me happy and knows about how bad my depression is. I am always sleeping. I skip all of my classes and my grades are falling apart. There is nothing I want to get up for. I laid in bed until 4pm today and missed all of my classes. I avoid social encounters even with people I know. There is nothing I even like to do alone. It is really bad right now guys. Starting my third antidepressant now. I just dont know how to continue life this way.

Hey @Tbigbro278 , I'm so sorry you are going through this. Feeling as though you don't fit in or can't connect enough with anyone at college seems to be really impacting your motivation level among other things. I'm sure watching most others going about their college life with their groups of friends must have been hard too. I just hope you know that you really aren't alone in this. Depression can sometimes make us feel very alone even if we do have friends, whether its just a couple of them or a huge group. You mentioned that your girlfriend has been supportive and makes you feel good? That's good to hear. Could she help motivate you to get out of bed, for example, make little plans that you would both enjoy, or participate in some activities together?

I hope you can find little ways keep yourself going everyday, even if it is doing small things for yourself like having a good breakfast or taking a walk. Anything with the goal of feeling better, not necessarily with the goal of getting better grades for now. You could try getting more professional help. Have you been seeing any therapist for your depression? Perhaps a combination of medicine and therapy could help you pull through? Once you feel better yourself its possible you'd also feel better about going out there and interacting with people.

Most importantly, hang in there! You can get through it. smiley

@Tbigbro278 I'm so sorry things have been so bad for you. It sounds like you've tried a lot of things to work on this, so major props to you, I know it's hard to keep fighting through. I really hope you're able to find your reason for getting up in the morning. We're here to support you; I know it's hard even to reach out online sometimes, but we want you to feel ok. Wishing you the best.
