Im still a bit new here and new to this concept.

I currently take depression medication. It does seem to help a bit. Ive been on it for a while.

This could all be cabin fever too. I was finally in control of my eating habits and bam! It hit, Ive hit the binge road. I feel like Im failing and cannot get my life back together. It could be stress too! It could be laziness! Im not sure. I have to find away to have things moving back in a positive direction.

Thankfully, for today I have a plan. Im trying to motivate myself to do some cleaning. Maybe crochet later. Try to undo some of the damage Ive done. I could go to the gym...I have a million excuses why not.

Anyone else who suffers from depression and eating troubles? Please, move if this isnt the correct spot. ;) Thanks for listening to my rambling.

@ttigs102 Yeah, I think it's fairly common. I know a lot of people stop eating when they have depression, but I gained about 30 pounds in the year I was severely depressed. Eating and drinking were favorite ways to numb the pain. Of course, it didn't last long.... Nasty cycle.

I still overeat, and tend toward emotional eating, but I'm also a fitness professional so I do a lot of exercise and eat a lot of nourishing food to support the movement. I feel like the days I do best are when I make sure I'm getting enough nourishment. In particular, plenty of fiber, protein and water. Those are kind of the magic three for me.... But I also try not to beat myself up when I do overeat, because I'm trying to learn to trust my inner signals. I feel like, if I can be mindful about what I'm eating, even if it's more than I planned, it is probably filling some physical need I'm not consciously aware of.

Mindless eating is more of a problem, but rather than beating myself up over it, I try to figure out what it's really about and if there is a better way to take care of myself. I'm usually trying to calm down when it happens, which becomes watching TV and going to the cupboards. But it might be better for my spirit if I read a book or take a warm bath.

These are all decisions that are easier to make when you aren't in the throes of depression, though... So be sure to keep an eye on your other symptoms and get help as much as possible.
