Livin' La Vida Loca
IDK where to start with the madness, so I'll just start from a recentish issue, and just flow. I'll put the different sides in [], to try to make things easier to type.
I married my wife, and we have an awesome boy, whose note quite 1. However, instead of joyful, I'm often angry, and resentful. I not only feel this way to my wife [W], but my son [S}. I find it disturbing, upsetting, and frusturating to have these feelings for her, and especially him.
The root of the issues, IMO, come from my wife's mom's [WM] side of the family, and her dad's [WD] side. When they got married, besides the majority of families being in 2 different states [WMS; WDS], with another state between them, there is a HUGE fight over religion. WM's side, while not directly affiliated with them, are 7th Day keepers. WD's side is atheist, and very secular. Both WM's and WD's family didn't want them to marry, and have been very negative towards the "other side." Here is the most recent crisis, which seems to be something new(ish).
Back in Sept, there was a stat rape incident, involving a 13 year girl, and a guy who was +10 years older than her. The girl has issues, including coping with a bro who died in 2009. The guy has some mental learning and comprehension issues. The issue is that the guy attends the small church that WM's paretns are pastors of. WD's family accused WM's family of promoting this sort of behavior. They included my wife & I. We've been married for 1 1/2 years, and she was over 18, by almost a year. However, I'm more than 10 years older than her, which WD's side didn't approve of. My wife's older sister did likewise, in that after she was 18, she married a guy who was +10 years older.
That we were brought up in police reports for the stat rape infuriated me, and terrified my wife. Due to some underhanded antics by WD and WD's family, their remaining minor kids were taken from their home, across state lines, to WD's family, nevermind the ongoing investigation. How this was accomplished was WD lied to CPS. It's the involvement of CPS that got us both, for if they were looking in on WD and WM, will they look in on us? Of course, 2 points are to be made. 1) We have been married 1.5 years, and there was no reports, whatsoever. 2) WD's side has made several insinuations about the church--and its members--are cultists, promoting sex trafficking. Since that's being slowly proven in court to be false, it opens WD's side to possible criminal and civil court actions.
Where things are also stressful is that we are currently staying with WM's folks, and live up in the mountains, about 45 mins north of town; more time, with the winter weather. That's because I've been working temp/freelancer jobs, and am currently between jobs. At 1st, I was glad for the place, especially with the baby on the way. However, that's been a nest of vipers. For example, I was looking to get a "job" working Kirby vaccuums, which I'll let people do their own research on. The issue was that I needed to be in, on a Saturday, for training. This wasn't mentioned when I started. WM's folks, being pastors of their tiny church, told me that if I work on the Sabbath, I'd have 30 days, and then have to leave. They believe that if I don't keep the Sabbath, it somehow taints them, as I'm "in their gates." ATM, I don't have resources for anywhere else. As for "shelters:" they want to split us up; we would have to be involved in heavy church activities that go against our beliefs; they would limit us to contacts; and a lot of other rules, that are either stifeling, or insulting.
In addition, they have no consideration for others. They are constantly telling us to be quiet, when the grandma needs to sleep, but they tend to stay up late [sometimes as late as 1am], and then, gramps gets up at 6am. Add to that, we have a baby that wakes up at random times to cry for feedings/diapers, and sleep's erratic, at best. I, sadly, am a very light sleeper. Just walking along the wood floor can often wake me up. And for whatever insane reason, granny claims she needs "white noise" to sleep, and that "music" plays loudly, more often than not. I've mentioned all of this, and for a bit, they do so, but then, it goes back. Or, they refuse to, with granny saying "I need this to sleep;" yet she complains about us making noise???
It also becomes irritating, with constant badgering about my currently not being employed. Granny constantly suggests all these customer service jobs, which I simply hate. Even if I didn't, when you add in the very time it takes to commute, with the gas, and the partly pay, I'd be spending most of my money on gas, and not being able to leave. It would also take away time from looking for jobs that I'd like, AND that would pay well. Of course, the problems with them not respecting a sleep schedule is a problem, too. I've found myself being tired. A few times, I tried to sleep in the living room, on a sofa. However, they crank up the fire to +95, and any attempts to make it a little cooler are crushed...I had gotten sick, because of the rapid changes between the heat and cold. That also makes a job search dismal, as I'm either tired, or feeling ill.
One last crazy issue, for now, that weighs in. WD's dad isn't with the rest of WD's dad. At one point, he got very threatening, making a threat on my life. The only remedy I'll list here is a restraining order.
So, with all this insanity, it causes me to often question. Should I have married my wife? She has a very "mountaineer" outlook on things, while I've a "big city." She wants to keep ties with family, even though they do everything from use CPS as an excuse to take kids across state lines, to death threats. For me, family is on deeds. I've friends I've know for years, who are more family to me, than my own family. I'm not so keen on ties to most of the people mentioned in this thread, which is another huge stress with my wife and I.
Anyone have their $0.02?
@ozymonds
Hey there Ozy! I know there isn't any single solution to this, and I know I cannot give you one but here are two thoughts I'd like to ask of you to run through.
After reading through your statement, I want to congratulate you and your wife on the marriage and for the joy of a child. Marriages arent easy, they will always be bumpy, as have my parents had their issues. Do know that it is always rewarding to talk with your counterpart about most everything and I'm glad you've reached out on here to continue th search.
Here are the two thoughts that come to mind:
1. Move somewhere nation wide where the prospects of your career flourish. I heard California is good with service and it. Maybe cutting off a good portion of the family that is not healthy to you would be a good thing as well, since even if you you ties, you are in control with whom you wish to conserve with. Though I know it I not that simple.
2. Have you ever thought of moving out of th country? Sometimes a fresh start can do everyone good. Maybe you can find a job that only requires you to work from home as you settle in?
I know that I might be pinging something impossible but I did not notice a mentioning of the 2 thoughts I just posted.
As always, feel free to get back to me in pm or a reply on here.
I wish you all the best and a Happy new years eve. May the good Flames guide you <3
@NamelessKnight
TY for your reply.
1. I was actually in the process of getting work on the other side of the state border; we live within 30 minutes of the state border. I applied for a job at a casino, on a Res, for security. With my military background, while not my dream job, it would be something to get things flowing. But while there was all this family war going on, and make sure CPS didn't try to turn attention to us, spending several hours a day in court houses and stuff, I missed their 3 calls, which went to my Voice Mail. When I finally called them, they told me they weren't taking any more candidates, and I'd have to reapply. I did, and I haven't heard back. So, I'm looked at as one of those unreliable people, and not going to be given time of day.
Besides the fact that it's horribly expensive, from when I's living there a bit over 5 years ago, the political climate is such that I'd avoid California at just about all costs. Besides being one of the most restrictive states for 2nd Amendment rights, they are working very hard to remove any sort of waivers for vaccines. I don't care how good a product is, sometimes $h!+ will happen, and for the American people to be unable to sue the manufacturers for damages, that's just one of a whole slue of reasons we aren't doing that, and why I won't go to CA, because it constantly tries to be a nanny state.
For me, it's actually very simple and easy. My family, on the other side of the map, I rarely talk with. In fact, the only ones I occasionally talk with are my cousin and her husband. The problem's my wife, who doesn't want to really cut ties with anyone. I'd to put a restraining order on a different grandpa, and bought a handgun, because the psycho's that freaking bat-shit crazy. Rumors state that he had a standoff with police some years back, but I tried several sources to find details of it, and there was nothing in the county records to indicate that, so IDK. He was/may still be associated with a guy who was a suspect in several murder cases; one body was found just outside the gate to his property, back in the 60s or 70s. Being that it's about an hour north of town, in the mountains, having the handgun + CCW made sense. Even with all that, my wife still doesn't want to totally cut him, or anyone else out of our lives, entirely. That becomes the real big issue. If people are that messed up, to me, it makes sense to minimize as much as possible, or flat out not associate with them. Most of these people hold very little meaning to me, especially knowing them less than 4 years.
Then, when there's stress, like this shit, she wants to continual badger to get her way, and especially if I've just dealt with others BS, I don't have patience for hers. This can come from tending to side with others—which irritates me to no end, and feeling like I've no support, whatsoever, and causes repeatedly to question about even being married—to wanting to do her thing with my personal stuff, because she's bored, and there's nothing else to entertain her; she had a tablet, but got so angry at her uncle, she wound up smashing it.
Where I'm at is trying to find something to bring in money, so that we can leave this misery. Early in my life, I lived with a house of people who did lots of drugs and got drunk. There was 2 others, not counting me, who weren't into that scene; at times, I feel like all this shit is more insane than that!
I was actually taking classes, and working on getting certified in Xero and Quick Books Online. Then, the *(&$@ decided to take me off the fiber optics web, and stick me on the satellite. I went from an average of 3M download and 250G/mo bandwidth to, if lucky, 0.2M download and 25G/mo! So, they basically screwed me up from taking those classes, and have put a huge damper on that. I'm working on the possibility of the Farmers Veterans Coalition, to help as a sort of liaison, and to help with admin type work. May be able to also provide bookkeeping services, even though not actually certified. I also signed up to be a coordinator to help place exchange students with families. Pay's $1000/student, and they're wanting 10 – 20 students placed; $10 - $20k would be a decent pay, if I get it.
2. I'm trying to focus on remote jobs, which is part of what I was trying with the online bookkeeping software certs. I'm not sure about other countries, especially with a baby that's not even 1. The only continents I haven't been on is Africa, South America, and Antarctica, which are goals to do, before I die. I digress, I'm not sure about leaving the US. If it was just me, then I'd consider it more. I'm not sure about it, especially for the baby. I'd be more inclined to move to another state. I've traveled from one coast to the other, 3 times in my life, so it's not too much of an issue...if it was just me. I'd go 10 – 14 hours, each day, to get from one to the other; not sure how that work with a baby. I also would do things like couch surf, which def won't work with a baby.
We're actually going to be visiting WM for at least a week, maybe 2. She actually understands a lot of the issues, going thru similar herself. She wants to focus on getting her stuff together, and to not be caught up in her folks' drama; one of her brothers, along with his wife, decided to move all the way to the other side of the state, to not have to deal with their drama. My plan is to spend at least 20 mins, each night with her, trying to plan out how we can make our financials work better, exploring a few options of starting business.
We NEED something, and we need it before the summer, because with the BFS of some people, IDK if we can survive as a couple much longer!
