Meds side effects
I have been on meds for 4 months now. Between the 4th and the 5th week of treatment, my depression got worse to the point that I had very dark thoughts. Those thoughts eventually subsided, but my depression didn't improve that much. The dose was increased to its maximum with little effect. So a month ago I got a stronger med. I felt better for a couple of weeks. Now, again between the 4th and the 5th week of treatment on this new med, my depression is getting worse again and I am scared. I know it could escalate very quickly. Has anyone else dealt with something like this? What should I do? Could it be the new med? I am having therapy and I have all the crisis resources at hand obviously.
@admaiorasemper My understanding, based only on what I have read, is that what you call very dark thoughts, together with associated risks, are a common side effect of a certain kind of medication that is often used for depression (SSRIs) and that soon, after you adjust to the medication, it's likely they will no longer be a problem. However, if you change the dose or switch to a different medication you could have the same trouble again, briefly, while you readjust.
There are other kinds of medication that some people find helpful for depression, so if the problem doesn't go away it could be useful for you to discuss the alternatives with whoever prescribes your meds. They all have side effects, but they don't all have the same side effects.

Thank you so much for your answer. I am just scared. Last time it went really far. Like, really really far. I think you got what I mean. And it took a few weeks to move away from that. It is escalating so quickly again and I really didn't expect this
@admaiorasemper I am scared for you too, but I am reminding myself you did get through this before, and you have the support of people who (presumably) know what's going on and that it's almost certainly going to be temporary.
