Not "depressed enough" for antidepressants
So I just recently started on an antidepressant. I've been tracking my symptoms and side effects so I can talk to my doctor at the 5 week mark about if we think I should stay on it or not. Because I've been tracking my symptoms so closely my mind keeps circling back to one thing, was I depressed enough for antidepressants? There was one night I cried for a long time because I felt like a "failure" for not being able to handle my symptoms on my own (which I had been trying to do for years). It's hard to see headlines and things talking about how America is "overmedicated" and not feel some shame. I'm just curious, is there a point where one becomes "depressed enough" to try medicine?
I think the whole "overmedicated" thing refers more to painkillers and antibiotics?
And anyway if you were prescribed it then surely someone in the professional realm determined you would be better off at least trying them.
