PMS and Depression

I have already been diagnosed with anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Im doing what I can to manage it but it can be hard some days. I find that some of my worst days are right around getting my period. It gets really awful. Sometimes I can just break down over the smallest things and the world is so much darker than usual.

Has anyone else had similar problems? Do you think it may be linked to my birth control and depression meds? Just trying to figure out how some of it compares before talking to my doctor about it

thank you for being amazing!

@GreenTeaFairy25 My own experience is that PMS really does affect my depression. So far, I haven't talked to anyone of my gal pals who have said that they get PMS and it *doesn't* affect their depression. It's a topic that comes up a lot for me with the women I know who still get PMS. It makes sense that PMS, which is extra tough on its own, even without depression, makes your depression worse. I'm sorry that this combo is making things rough for you.

What I found helpful was really talking to my primary care doc and my mental health team. They had some really useful suggestions for lifestyle changes, and sometimes they've changed my birth control to help with the PMS issues at various points throughout the years. I wish you the best of luck with your appointment, if you haven't seen your doctor yet.
