Therapy forever ?
I am being in therapy for swven years now, I went from a therapist to another, I am in medication since three years now.
I Left the last therapist for some reasons..
I FEEL some depression thoughts, I reached some great listener here and they really supported me.
I JUST wonder if there people like me who need a lifetime therapy?
I just need my depression to be under control
I want to get my PhD done, really want to get a job and serve people..
Will I be dependent from therapy someday?
Have anyone experience these feelings?
@easyTree5397 I am not an expert, but according to the therapists I know (in real life, not here at 7 Cups), the standard treatment for depression is CBT based on a formulation, which typically takes around seven weeks or so, definitely not seven years.
Non-standard treatment could take much longer or not work at all. Many therapists don't really provide CBT (even if they say they do), or they don't base it on a formulation, or they get the formulation wrong and so the treatment doesn't work. There has also been some controversy around antidepressant medication, for example: Antidepressants Can Cause Long-Term Depression
So-called treatment resistant depression is said to exist, although it's rare. If your depression is resistant to well-formulated CBT, and resistant to the usual medications (SSRIs), then there are many other possible treatments worth trying. For examples, see: Management of Treatment-Resistant Depression
Having therapy forever is almost unheard of these days. There was a famous article in the New York Times about it: My Life in Therapy
As you seem determined to bring your depression under control, and you have good support from listeners here, it seems to me very likely that you'll eventually free yourself from therapy one way or another.

Thank you Charlie for your useful response,
I will have a conversation with my last therapist about that, I got so much better after the last therapy.. maybe I am experiencing some sadness, maybe some anxious about future .. I hope to be free from therapy, and to become more dependent with self .
I will definitely read the articles you shared.
Thank you again !🙂
I m not too sure if one cam draw a line on when to stop therapy as I think it's a very personal thing @easyTree5397 @RarelyCharlie
For instance I've attended different forms of therapy and they work differently.
However for instance I only did my psychological assessment last year after 20years on and off therapy.
And nobody before the report had mentioned ptsd or that I should look into emdr as therapy.
I'm not sure there is a right or wrong way about it but it has crossed my mind too that sometimes I may have become too dependent on therapy but on the other hand when I used to feel better I'd stop. Like I did occasionally with medication. And then it's easy to spiral down and find yourself back in the hole
