Depression is like having constant pins and needles in the soul. It triggers your anger and helplessness. It's like "The requiem for a dream's" themesong. Well, you gota do something, cope and survive it anyhow. There would be so much data on this topic, but here, I have made a list of ways which help me fight depression and I hope they would help you as well.

1) Catharsis: Channel your negative (depressive) energy in a positive way. Read, write, watch a movie, exercise, run or anything that you like. Blow out your depression into something fine, it would make you feel better and relaxed.

2) Count your blessings: Counting your blessings, achievements and accomplishments is the best way to make yourself feel better. Remember, you have faced a great deal with strength, you deserve better than being just depressed and hopeless. Be proud of yourself!

3) Don't dwell on your past: Don't think (or overthink) about your past failures, losses, mistakes or misfortunes. Afterall, we are human beings, we make mistakes but we also possess brain to learn, interpret and differentiate between good and bad, as well as feelings to express. So why not accept & embrace the past, learn from it, move forward and be hopeful? Let go of the past and divert your mind into something positive!

4) Talk to someone: Share your feelings with someone you feel comfortable talking to, you'd feel light. Your listener might help you or remind you of what a good soul you are!

5) Selfcare: It is important to take care of yourself. Make selfcare a priority. Get a good night's sleep, exercise regularly, meditate, write, eat and yes, remember to have some good hobbies to keep yourself busy, optimistic and confident. That would also help you cope depression.

I hope you all benefit from these ways. Good luck guys!! smiley

@BellaFreedom thanks for the post :) I think a lot of people are also depressed because they lack direction or purpose in life, in turn making them feel that there's not much point in continuing to live. Perhaps we can suggest to volunteer or focus on their priorities, interests, dreams and hobbies.

@GingerBread212 that's a large part of why I feel so depressed. But depression has an easy way of sucking all the motivation needed to do all the things you suggest.

@Jpmk I understand :( I know depression can make it difficult to get out and have the energy to do something. It's just that I know some who struggled with depression, and gathering from their experience, it seems that lack or loss of purpose is one of the reasons behind depression.Take one step at a time, is what I would say. It won't be an instant fix, but little progress is better than none. Even if you're not able to find something, or relapse after doing much progress, it does not mean that you fail. Perhaps a different approach or time is needed. Treat yourself with kindness and patience. I have days when I'm exhausted and numb and didn't feel like leaving the bed. Somehow, responsibilities and the importance of maintaining relationships are what drives me out of bed. Something about empathy and contributing to society led me to endure the ups and downs in life. I once went through an emotional period, somehow along the way it became too much and I found myself losing touch with friends or falling out in responsibilites, letting people down. From there I learned to be independent and not to mull too much. Perhaps your experience is different from mine, but know that there's hope. Be strong.

@GingerBread212 That is damn true Ginger! You really make a point. And that's the number 1 cause behind depression in most of the people. So wise of you, thanks for sharing! heart
