What are some ways to coppe with depression
@AVARY22 I rely on other people lots. My family, friends (online as wells real life), therapist and people in my therapy group. I tend to isolate and that makes my depression worse.
I rely on cognitive therapy tools such as challenging negative thinking, recognizing and interrupting automatic thoughts and behaviors and mindfulness techniques.
I use music to influence my moods. When I'm sad, rather than deny it or attempt to change it I'll put on a sad song or two and really feel it. Maybe after I've done that I'll put on some upbeat music.
I also cope by accepting that I have mental illness and this means on some days, I'm just not gonna be the best version of myself.
I tend to pour my feelings into things I love. Singing a song dear to my heart, drawing some vent art, writing poetry, dancing are the activities that I do the most. If you like writing poetry, or maybe want to try, writeahaiku.com is a wonderful website that sorts a sentence into 5 7 5 format for you as you type, and it makes it very easy to write haikus! I use this a lot. I like to exersize to take my mind off of depression. You forget everything once you hit that second minute in a plank! The results from working out also make me feel much more confident in my body. Once I started developing abs, I felt monumentously better about the way I looked, and it really helped me to love myself more. Talking better to yourself in your head also makes a huge difference. Change negative thoughts into positive, even if you don't feel it! It's starting, slowly but surely, to feel more natural.
I do things that I enjoy. This sometimes helps.
