When things get bad, what do you hold on to?

@Chiaroscuro1 I don't really hold on to something. I just tell myself, "well, you are still alive. so deal with it. "

Is that healthy ?

For me, it's kind of difficult. But. What I do hold onto is making new friends out in the world along with traveling the world. Seeing new places, trying new foods and everything else. My mom and my two best friends along with all of the animals I have yet adopted in an animal shelter. (I'm a huge animal lover and want to adopt all of the animals in them, haha)

@Chiaroscuro1

Bad days - The thought that my Mum and Dad went through so much to get me here (I was very premature as a baby) keeps me truly considering a world without me in it. Thinking that way really upsets me and I hang onto that as clearly I still care about something.

Good days - keep occupied, ensuring I have a purpose, study, activity etc.

I almost always just try to stop and breath. I read about a breathing technique 4-7-8 awhile ago. Breath in for 4 seconds, hold for 7, let out for 8. Its been scientifically proven to slow down your heart rate in an efficient manner and helps me regroup. For me, breathing is the most basic of human needs. If we stop breathing, we stop living. So whenever i'm overwhelemed, that's the really simple task that I can focus on.. In. Out. In. Out. It can become a mantra and just to do that can take all of my energy. It leaves no energy for negativity. And it can be done anywhere, anytime. Work, home, errands, doctors, wherever. I'll be in the middle of an argument and I'll just take a minute to breath and collect myself.

But the things that I really hold on to to get me through... Knowing I've been through a lot already helps me continue forward. I've done a lot fo stuff already, so throw whatever you can at me. My two wonderful partners have really stepped it up and been an anchor for me and our future together and what we want to achieve together is one worth striving to keep fighting towards.

But about the last part.... We have so many plans and so many ideas for our future. Some very much set in stone as will happen (having kids, getting a house etc).... But that in itself isn't enough. Those same people need to be supportive in the here and now and have your back with the right now stuff. There was a time that I wasn't getting the emotional support for the things happening in the right now. But I'd keep holding on to our future together as a way to make up the lack of things right now okay. But that's not okay. SO make sure that if you're holding onto a future with someone else as your anchor, that the right now with them is good too.
