depression & studying
I'm so close to graduating (3 months left) , yet I'm in such a depressive state and i suffer from suicidal ideation. does anyone have advice on how to study whilst depressed?
i know i would never forgive myself if I dropped out now.
Congratulations on graduating in 3 months! Do you have active or passive suicidal ideations? Are there any specific causes other than depression? Three months may not be enough to receive medical treatment for underlying causes of your ideations, but have you tried changing up your routine? For example, sleep cycles, nutritional meals, exercising habits, or making time for hobbies and interests. Are you able to speak with a counsellor to work through your ideations and help cope with them? Identify triggers, remember feelings are temporary, take care of yourself in finding ways to relieve stress.
In the past, in my first year of University, I had both ideations and was at the peak of my depression. I went to see a counsellor on a weekly basis and help deal with both the depression and ideations. I ended up loosing interest and energy to keep up with my classes and dropped out in the second year. Thinking back to it now, I was thankful to have met a good friend back then who had supported me during that tough time.
In your case, it's a very positive point where you know to not drop out at this point in time (with 3 months left to graduate). Keep this thought in mind and on the surface, to stay composed and focused on your studies. Study your classes in chunks, with self-care gaps in between~
