diagnosis ??
when you see a pyschiatrist they do a assessment is it normal for them to do another assessment?? like if you ask for it or to make sure im not getting worse i also dont want to be on my meds well one of them can i take myself off of it
@imsorryitry Yes, I think it's pretty normal for that to happen. I mean, wouldn't it be better to take your time and do a few different assessments before diagnosing, rather than jumping right in after just one assessment, you know? Mental health is a complicated thing, and it can take a bit of time to really understand and get the full picture, even for professionals.
For your medication, it's important to talk to your doctor if it's safe to stop taking it, or any concerns you have about them. For example, my sister was on medication for anxiety and she felt it wasn't helping so she stopped taking it, and ended up having a seizure because it was a type of medicine where you can't just suddenly stop, you have to slowly lower your dose over time. (I was the only one with her when it happened and it was very scary! luckily she was okay, but it could have been avoided if she just talked to her doctor about it). You never know about the effects stopping medicine could have (such as if it's being balanced by other medication you take, and stopping it would put it off-balance) so if you really feel you want to come off of one, you should bring it up to your doctor and see their thoughts on it
@TaranWanderer
im on a psychotropic and i hate it i dont want any of my meds im on like 6 or 7 meds
@imsorryitry well, you could always talk to your doctor (or therapist, whoever is prescribing you the pills) about lowering the amount that your on, and about any in particular that you don't like, such as the antipsychotic one. Sometimes if you have a lot going on, it just ends up that you need quite a few different pills, since there's pretty much no magical one that can help with everything. But of course, your doctor will know more about it than me or you, so they should be able to help come to an agreement about which can be taken off, which ones help in what way, etc. There's nothing wrong with taking medication, but your comfort is important too.
