How to cope with loneliness after moving during covid

I've been coping with moving internationally for grad school, covid, and a breakup all at once.

I've felt horribly isolated and lonely and just sad. I was getting better by the end of my first semester, this whole omicron variant hadn't started. I was able to go out with people in my lab, see classmates, leave the house every day. It helped a little, though i was still missing that depth of connection I wanted from a friend. I was looking forward to going home for christmas.

Covid is really bad in my home state right now so we couldn't go out much without risking making people like my grandmother sick, so we stayed home most days. So with all the ample free time my parent's number one goal while I was there was to clear out all my stuff, and told me they wanted to sell the house. I grew up in that house my whole life. I'm not a super mushy person and I understand them wanting to downsize now that I'm gone. It just came about at a time when I don't feel very stable. I don't have friends, family, or anyone really out where I live now. Coming home was like a huge relief and it felt like the one safe place to go to, where things were familiar and people knew me and I could be myself. but instead of being happy I had to throw away or give away all my memories of where I was. It was necessary. But it sucked.

Then I come back to my province i live in, which is pretty remote, and everything is on lockdown again because of covid. I moved here for school, but also to feel more free. When i first got here i went to cafes and on hikes and to the shops downtown, but now, I can't go out to restaurants, invite out labmates, I can't even go to my campus just to get work done, I have to sit alone in my house. Its like two years ago except this time I don't have a partner and friends and family, I just have me and my work and existential dread. I would feel so much better about everything right now if i just had people here I could talk to and open up to, but I don't yet. Those connections take a lot of time and I just moved here 5 months ago. I don't want to text a stranger to tell them I need company, or that i'm struggling, I already have a therapist but I feel like the only way to really get better is to be around other people and make those friends and have a support group. I've always had a hard time with making friends but now I really need it and I want to put in the work, but the timing just. Sucks.

I'm just so tired of feeling isolated from the rest of the world. I want to feel like if I needed to I could have a friend's house to go to and just hang out (we get a bubble of 10 people here right now). With everything closed I can't hang out in public places like I used to so there's nothing to fill that void. What can I do to feel less alone and just feel more supported during all this? What can I do to make friends during this whole mess?

You are so brave to come here and share what you feel.... I know how you feel.... Might not be the best advice but.... When I feel lonely and tired, I just walk around my house in circles and keep drinking water..... Try to cook while facetiming a friend.... Make a bloody mess of things and laugh about it (even if I am alone and not talking to anyone.....)
