Ik this sounds dumb
I know this sounds stupid, but I always feel yearning for something I can't have. I'm manic depressed and I have an okay life. A bit stressed as I'm thinking about college, but I have friends, I have a boyfriend, im okay there, but ill read a fic online and just think about everything im missing out on. It feels like my life is passing me by, and I feel so alone every time I read them. I like reading them, but they make me sad when I come back to the real world. How do I stop the longing and yearning?
Fiction romanticizes everything. Stories are interesting because time-warp happens a lot. We can often skip the boring parts and go straight to the action... We can skip to years later so that we can continue the story in a logical way. Or we can go back to the past and see how it's affecting the current context.
Our lives are far more chronological and there's no time-warping. You can't just skip through the unexciting, routine parts. You'll also notice that in movies and fiction, people may go to work or to school, or do house chores... but you see very little of that. The focus is on the social context and the drama and the plot. It's almost like the characters never really have to study, do homework, or, as an adult, spend most of their time at work (which is unrealistic).
But if you take a zen-like perspective on things, you can see the magic and the beauty in the ordinary, daily things as well.
Do an exercise: look back on your life, from when you were born up until now. I bet there's a story in there! And, if you look into your ancestry, you may find an even more exciting story. Ask your family members about their lives. Ask them to look back. Then you will see how the stories are entertwined!
Hi @RachelG19
It's not dumb 🙂 it's understandable
I also read and watch a lot of fictions. It's entertaining and that's their purpose to entertain us and when I was so much younger it helped to gave bit of ideas of how life is, the protagonist characters and the antagonist.
If it's a series, i also feel sad when it's over 😁
What's your fav fiction genre? and how do you find fiction helps you? - 🍀
