Hi. I'm currently in a depression and struggling to be motivated to eat, shower take care of myself... I have had some really dark times in the past and while this isn't the lowest I've been, I am really struggling with doing things. I've heard encouragement that says to focus on small tasks... but what if I'm really just never going to get out of this? It's a negative cycle of thought. Maybe someone can relate.

I don't think it's a matter of "getting over it", but a matter of learning to deal with it. With myself, I cycle through bad times and times that are ok. I feel stuck and paralyzed when they bad, but when I feel ok I try to make good habits stick so that maybe I'll be able to pull out of the next down swing a little faster.

Try mindfulness meditation, you can find great ted talks on YouTube about mindfulness. It's the only thing that's ever come close to making me feel like maybe I can learn to live a life not constantly fettered down by my depression.

Thanks. I attended a peer group session about mindfulness today and could barely handle it, to be honest. Time spent meditating or resting just kicks up my anxiety right now, and after the session I spent my time reading online experiences about when to go to the hospital for depression. I've been thinking today I could go to the hospital, they'll probably send me home but at least there will be a chunk of time where I can receive care. Mindfulness doesn't seem like enough, or it asks too much... stuck telling myself day after day " I can't "

I feel the same… as if I’m never going to get out of this.. but deep down we will.. it’s more about thinking positive rather than negative! We will have our bad days but we will get through it
