New to my town and struggling with loneliness
I've lived in my town for 2 years now and am still lacking a good friend here. All of my friends from where I used to live are busy and have their own lives so I don't get to see them often. I find myself hanging on my husband all the time because he is the only person I have to talk to. I socialize at work, but want a friend I can connect with near my home. I find myself getting so sad at times from feeling so alone. I've tried to meet people, but it's like everyone already has their friends and it's been much harder than I thought to connect with someone. Any suggestions?
That is a hard place to be, and I bet you are (like me) someone who doesn't naturally gravitate towards "
people". People tell me I'm a "people person", but I'm not. I work in healthcare so I have to be caring and empathetic and a listener , and I sincerely do in that setting- but I'd rather not have to interact with people a lot of the time. I had to go out of my comfort zone to get a few good friends, but I did that and I am glad I did. I joined a club and went to a weekly exercise class where there were easy ways to start conversations, and out of that I did find a few gals that I just clicked with and we make a point to stay connected. Is there a class or hobby,or club you might consider? If it is something you like, or something new, you might find others who like the same things and that is a great start to friendship. That worked for me, and I hope you will find new friends too- it is so important for mental health.
@MusicCandy
Exactly! You totally get how I feel. I have actually looked into clubs and things like that, but I haven't been able to find anything in my area that meets at times I can go. I have also tried online methods of meeting people and have met a few for coffee, but haven't clicked with anyone. It's hard to find time with the kids and their activities. It's so hard because when you do find someone you like, the kids don't get along or something and that is a problem then. I'm going to keep trying... just difficult. Thank you for understanding.
@Skyscrapers
I give you kudos for trying, and a skyscraper full of love and good wishes. I haven't had much luck online finding friends, people just want to look good online I think. Just keep trying , my friend.
