Sometimes I wonder if I’ll ever be satisfied in life. I look around and see my family members and how they have someone other then themselves that will cheer them up, that will listen to them, that will be with them through hard times. But who do I have? I have friends but would they even care to listen to me talk about what I’m going through? They would just feel bad for me, they wouldn’t want their mood to be brought down. Even in church I have no one to go to. In school I don’t really have a teacher to relie on, and my counselor isn’t available to talk. I don’t have a boyfriend or girlfriend, or a dog, or someone/something to keep me just INTERESTED in life. And I get it, to love someone else, you gotta start at home and love yourself... but when will I ever love myself? I look at the internet and see people who are so happy now because they’ve finally learnt to “love themselves” but how does that happen? Does it just stay with them years after? How is that even possible. I cant go a day without hearing negative thoughts about myself created BY myself, and I cannot stop that. I just feel like everything and everyone is trapping me, and I cannot escape that.

Woah. This hit home for me. I feel the same way so often and it’s frustrating. I often wonder when the “loving myself” part will finally kick in. Intrusive and negative thoughts are my ultimate down fall and I struggle every day to not have them consume me and mess up my days/moods. Keeping busy seems to help sometimes. Working out too. But at the end of the day, I still feel stuck in a cycle of trying to get to that “happy place” in my life with just myself.

I hear you and I can feel strong loneness radiate from the article. Is hard to live alone in a world that nobody understands you. Try to lean on people more, you will never know how much they care about you before you try. If they don’t care, those people may not be a good match for you.

Loving yourself is not an easy task, especially when you have never seen what it looks like before. It takes a lot of effort, time and commitment but it's so worth it. And you don't need to wait to love yourself to be in an understanding, supportive, nurturing relationship (platonic or romantic). Any kind of relationship you have should make you feel loved, supported, comfortable and safe. Even if you're not at a stage where you say, I accept who I am and I love myself for it, you can still be with someone who loves you as you are right now. In fact that person just might help you love yourself more by setting an example. If your so called friends feel you bring their mood down then they aren't your real friends. The real people in your life support you and take steps to help you feel better and get to a stage where you can say I'm okay. You're your worst critic and that's okay. You can learn to be kind to yourself one step at a time. Start simple, take it slow, it'll be okay. It will take time and effort but you are worth it. Surround yourself with people who support and nurture you. Please remember that you are worth it and you deserve every kind of happiness and love there is. And 7 cups is always going to be here, a place where you can come back to, where you'll be heard and understood.

🚙 Drive-by words of a (not so) wise human:

Self-love is a forever work in progress, takes time, has a lot of ups and downs but you'll feel comfortable in your own skin and become aware of how awesome you truly are (I'm already assuming you'll be very successful) which makes it easier for oneself to captivate others and begin new relationships - romantic or otherwise. So... Either life will force you to see that you're as perfect as you can be with all your flaws and insecurities or you'll find out by yourself in the most expected way possible - this one is always fun. Focus on your qualities and reevaluate the ones you don't feel as positive ones but be mindful that forgiving and being kind to yourself, is where you really start your quest to awesomeness. Everyone makes mistakes, everyone has their own set of skills and it's alright if other's don't find it as useful as you do, the point is: you're opinion is always the last one standing. If you believe you're good at something and work your heart and soul into it, doesn't mattet what the critics say because there will ALWAYS be people that disagree with you... What matters is that someone, somewhere, will find your work the most beautiful thing they've seen in their intire life and your work will be a beacon for them somehow and that's good enough.

Don't let others apparent success diminish your life experiences and accomplishments. Everyone has it's own rhythm of growth, yours is just as good and valid as anyone else's. Trust your gut and yourself, trust those who seek to better your life and keep your circle small. Trust me on this one: better to have few friends than the wrong ones. BUT also, it's alright to be alone, it sure feels lonely sometimes but also gives you time to know yourself a bit better and to find ways to better yourself, if you find the need to.

Good luck on your journey, fellow human.

Be brave and kind and you'll be alright. heart

Forgot to add this little detail: Humans are social animals and relationships are important, yes? However, relationships can be hard for someone with mental health issues, like most of us here, but they're not impossible, on the contrary. Just don't rush into romantic relationships if you're feeling lonely, wait for someone that will reach out for you and be supportive of your well-being, no matter what. I know loneliness is hard and the need to be understood and loved is great but... Please, don't throw yourself into a relationship that might potentially damage you more than help you find your balance. Befriend the person, get to know the person well, their qualities, their kindness... Friendship before love is halfway to a successful partnership.

I hear you....and I so understand what you are going through....i was actually going through the same feelings until last year, when I kinda hit rock bottom and completely shut off from the world. A random talk from a random spiritual guide said these words which kind of helped me..I would like to share this with you..just in case it helps. See yourself like how you would see a friend go through the same problems....say things that you would say to that friend out loud or maybe pen it down.....and keep those words. They will give you strength. If you have no advise to offer...it's fine, sometimes we don't have the answer to all the problems in the world....all we need is somebody to say it's okay to feel low...it's fine to feel bad... I am sure you would say these words to a friend right?!...so just say it, or write it.......that's more like the 1st step of loving oneself...it's being kind to ourselves, being patient with ourselves.... I am almost 30...and I just figured this out now...I have spent years going through that feelings that you went through...and it affected me way too negatively!...don't worry I am sure you wil get through it. By the way...another thing that helped me was a hobby...it gives you instant gratification that makes you feel better about yourself...it can be anything...for me it was writing and reading a novel till then end......so give that a thought too.... Hope I could be of some help...hang in there!!!😊
