Silent and alone

When you lose someone you love, you don't lose just one person, but many versions of them. Everybody has their own experience of who that person was, how they were viewed, what they meant to us. Now, reflecting late at night over a massive loss, all I can think is about the hole left by this person and whether life will ever feel right and okay again. Now that the messages of hope and the condolences have ceased, there is a yawning void. In the late night, in the dark alone, the future looks bleak and the thoughts in my own head are far too loud to deal with on my own. What is aloneness? What is so different at night, when daytime seems almost bearable? Why is silence the companion of night and why is that silence deafening when the silence of the daytime is peace?

@gentlEast8898, really sorry for your loss. Many don't understand what you've described unless they've gone through it. I can relate. The more you loved the harder grief is. When you think about the good memories, you get sad. When you think about the future with them, you get sad. It is a difficult place to be alone but time does help. I wish you peace and a soothing of this pain.

Thank you so much for connecting, for reaching out. I think perhaps you may have felt this same sense of loss, from what you wrote. My heart goes out to you...there are times we all need to know someone is there. Thank you again for your kindness and I wish you warm thoughts.

My condolences on your loss. Nightime is the hardest. The thoughts and feelings overwhelm you because there is no distractions. I wish you the strength and peace you need.

Your point is a wise one, and it makes so much sense. Distractions may not be best for us but do take the edge off pain. Thank you so deeply for sharing your wisdom. I wish you all the very best.

I can relate very much so. Night is when everything else gets quiet and you're left with your thoughts, feelings and memories, it's so difficult and painful to experience that. My condolences.

@thetomorrowgirl

Thank you for your warm, kind, understanding words. To know that someone understands makes a world of difference. And if ever you feel the same, as you said that you understand, then please know that you, too, are not alone.
