What is wrong with me? Why do I not know how to make friends?

Im 22. I had a really hard time in high school and went on independent studies because I was bullied. Ive been to a mental institution once. I do have a boyfriend but I only have one friend I occasionally talk to and his friends that Ill kind of talk to when Im with them. I never know what to say to anyone. I dont have any hobbies and dont know what interests me. My parents are supporting me financially right now but they wont be around forever. I feel like such a burden on them. When Im around people, Im really quiet. I feel like I dont have social skills. I dont know what to do. I struggle with suicidal thoughts everyday. I would never kill myself, but I still dont want to be here.

Hey! I'm sorry that you feel this way.

I believe finding friends starts within yourself. As you said, you have no hobbies and you don't work? Maybe focus on learning what you enjoy and finding things to do that you love. It develops skills and you as a person! Gaining a job will allow you to meet new people too.

If you are wanting change, you must welcome and create change for yourself. :)

Hey there. I'm going through the same struggles as you but i'm much older. Have you been diagnosed with anything?

I have just recently been diagnosed with mild depression and anxiety. What a supprise!. So this was the thing that i was struggling all my life with and finally at 37 i know it has a name.

I really hope that you will get diagnose as i did. At least that is a start to understand this very dark, mysterious and personal side of us and get the support you need.!

I would never want anybody having to go through depression and anxiety alone like myself. It was/still is never a choice but that is all i have, me.

I felt really bad when I was your age. I am 33 now and I'm female. I guess I would say it's really an advantage that you're young. When I was your age I didn't have any friends. I also hadn't dated. I spent a lot of time being very depressed. I was so isolated from any social network to even know that a lot of people don't get married until their late twenties. I guess it is really hard to be at an age when it is so important and you feel like you missed out so far. It's really important though to see how much time and opportunity you have to improve. When I look back, I didn't need to worry about getting married by 24. And its sad i spent so much time being sad and not being more hopeful. I am still having a hard time with it, but it's still my goal. I think I would be where I would want to be if I started in my early twenties. If you start improving socially now, things can be better in the future and you can be where you want to be at 25 or 27 or 30. The twenties are just a big window where you can work to where you want to go. There are a lot of people who arent so good with social things and they get better at things as they get older. I don't know the best steps for you to take, but I know doing things you really like and finding similar people is helpful. I guess most importantly it's just really important to just work on changing things instead of being hopeless. I think you have some time and can use it to take a journey to get where you want to go. It might take awhile, but that isnt so bad because you have some time.

Well, I am entering my senior years. (Over 50 +). People say I look like I'm in my 40's. This is a curse and a blessing. I don't fit in with my peers, (very young at heart). Their bodies have broken down so badly and they have aged, in mind as well as body. I still love to dance, walk, ride bikes, in short I'm still very mobile and active. This causes my social groups to be much younger than myself. When they find out my age, they are intimidated and act differently towards me. I usually start stepping back because of it. This leaves me alone and isolated. I don't enjoy my time with the young or the old. I feel very displaced instead of feeling blessed to age so gracefully. I'm lonely. I hate it. Always had a husband or boyfriend i past. Now when I could use companionship most, I find myself alone.
