Accutane Depression
My derm prescribed Isotretinoin to help with a benign tumor but warned me to research the side effects of depression. I have felt like a zombie for over a week with mid-day knock outs and severe anxiety to start work or more. I've tried ACV, dietary changes, physical activity changes, and more. I don't want to relapse into depression and can't afford the emotional rollercoasters of meds. It doesn't help that I'm coping with the aftermath of an abusive ex and my mom is bipolar + depressed. What should I do?

i actually went through a similar thing. i was on accutane for 6 months last year, and am still feeling the depression now. my anxiety got a lot worse as well. it completely ruined my mental health. i totally understand why you don’t want to go on meds as well. i never did. are you still on the accutane? some of the things that have helped me cope with my anxiety and depression in the past have been: - being physically active - eating relatively healthy - prioritizing sleep - relaxation techniques (such as meditation or mindfulness) - writing out my feelings - distracting myself i find that with being active and writing out my feelings, i am able to get a sense of release so the feelings don't build upon each other as much. even just going for a walk can be very helpful. eating healthier has helped me as well. i believe that if you give your body good food instead of bad and drink a lot of water, your mind will be healthier both physically and mentally. sleeping is very important to me as well. i find that getting enough sleep and getting on a normal schedule helps my mind function better in general. i have tried meditation in the past too. if you even just for 5 minutes when you wake up in the morning listen to a guided meditation, it can help clear your mind and get you ready for the day. some of my favourite distractions are listening to music and watching a show or movie. often times when your mind is elsewhere, the feelings tend to not rise up as much or as bad. that is just temporary, but can help in the moment. i know you said you tried some dietary and physical activity changes, but remember that a lot of it takes time so don’t worry if you aren’t seeing immediate results. remember that you don't have to try all of these at once, and setting small goals or trying new things slowly can be great! i hope this helped!! ❤️
