Do antidepressants actually work?

I have been trying a variety of antidepressants for quite some time now, and it's just difficult to know if they're helping. I still have depression-symptoms, but it is hard to know if they have decreased. Does anyone have success stories with taking antidepressants? How do you know when you've found the right pill combination?

Thank you for your replies!

@scarletOrange1253 Based on what I've read and people I've talked to (in real life) they seem to work for some people. For some people they seem to do nothing at all, for some they have unpleasant side effects, and for a few people they are dangerous.

You know you've found the right one when it works and you feel better!

The people I know who say antidepressants have worked for them also say they worked quite quickly and dramatically, by the way. All this makes me think that when you say it's just difficult to know if they're helping, it means they are not helping. There are several different types, though, and it can take a long time to find the right one.

Hi there @scarletOrange1253 :)

I have taken antidepressants before and they have worked for me. They didn't do wonders in terminating my depression but I could see improvements in myself, although I was sleepier and felt more tired they made me more clam/relaxed and I would have a better control over my feelings. The effects of the antidepressants vary from a person to another but I am sure you can work with your doctor or therpist to find a cure that works best for you, I would also recommend tracking down your health to see the impact of the pills you are talking. Hope you find your path to a healthier life :)
