How can I fight my depression and help my son try to fight his depression at the same time?

I have been suffering from depression for the last 20 years. Yes my meds help but not all the time. At the same time my son's mother passed away almost 3 years ago and he has spiraled down since then. He won't talk to people about it. I have had him hospitalized once because he was wanting to harm himself. Today we started down that road again. Now he refuses to seek help. He is failing every class. It is hard to help him when I get depressed at the same time.

That sounds like a very difficult and painful situation. Has there every been a time when you struggled with getting help and overcame it? Maybe you could relate to your son where he is, and let him know that you hope he can get to a place where he is ready to accept help. It must be very hard to see him struggle, but your own health is also a priority, and we can help others better when we can take good care of ourselves.

Are there resources he can access from school, or maybe grief counselling?

@MrsGreenTea

There is lots of resources here even at his school. Just getting him to use them is the hard part. I wake up several times in my sleep with panic attacks. I worry about him. It has effected my work.
