How do I gather the strength to move on?

My depression has been coming on for years since I was a young kid. I'm at 18 now and it only seems to be getting worse. I've tried to get help but every time I do those attempts turn out to do anything. How do I gather the strength to keep going? When all I want to do is a lay curled up in a ball and crying. How do I move on?n

@InvisibleAnnie16 Hello Annie :)

Sorry to hear about your depression and your dificulty to be better

Moving on is hard. But personally I believe, the first step to effectively move on begins in the mind. You have to be ready to do anything to feel better and be ready to actually be better. Tell yourself you can do it. And if you fall back during the process, get up and don't dwell too much on it. Keep going :)

Also, working on it with a professional who understands you and answers your querries can be a big plus!

I hope I helped you, even just a little bit. You can also check out the forum posts about your issue here or self-help guides. Or maybe even connect to a listener :)

Best of luck xxx

@InvisibleAnnie16 It's tough to get moving if you've had depression for any length of time. Finding small things you can enjoy is a good start, in addition to what else is mentioned here in the previous reply. I know that finding something to enjoy sounds impossible, given your state right now, but it does go back to having that readiness and willingness to feel better. Sometimes it's easier and takes less mental energy to stay in bed and not do anything about the way you're feeling - and I completely get that. Do you enjoy reading? Sometimes I have tried books thinking it would cure my boredom and keep me busy for a few hours, but on occasion, it opened up my eyes to a new way of seeing the world. I read a lot of self-improvement books... don't know if that's something that appeals to you, but it doesn't take much energy to open one up and start reading. Just start anywhere, and if it doesn't work out, start again the next day with something else. Life doesn't have to be a struggle, but it does take effort to get out of a depression. Maybe a therapist could help you get started, or the right listener here could. Don't be afraid to ask for help and look into resources that will help you. I'm here if you have any questions. xo
