How to deal with disinterest in everything?
Don't know if this has already been asked on here, but lately nothing seems worth doing. Its reached the point where I'm starting to sleep most of my day away cause nothing else seems to matter. I don't want to be like this. I wasn't always like this. Is there a way to pull out of it?
I just try to chug along. I have recently realized that I've systematically cut people out of my life and things I used to enjoy. I'm basically just existing right now. I have no interests, really. I have no motivation to do anything. I deal with disinterest by just waking up every day and doing what needs to be done.
I do the exact same @Lolo31
@Lolo31 I totally get it. That's exactly how I feel. I used to love reading and had over 600 books, and now, I have them and they're just collecting dust. Haven't really enjoyed doing anything. Lost interest in all. I just wake up, work 2 jobs, be a mother and wife and yet, nothing. No interest. I just exist. Not live. Just exist.
I am exactly the same at the moment. Couldn't have said it better myself @Lolo31
@Lolo31
Me too, I stopped hanging out with my friends and sadly, don't really miss them. I used to love painting but it just frustrates me now, I used to read all the time but now I never pick up a book. Nothing really makes me happy anymore.
I have finally found a combination of meds that is helping me some. The thing that helps me more than anything is making myself get out of the house. There are days I don't want to get out of bed but if I at least go get the mail I feel a little better.
@TabbyPhoenix
For me personally it was meds that helped me regain enough energy and serotonin to be able to enjoy things. Everyone is different though. If it's been happening for a long time you may want to see a doctor about it. Other types of therapy can help too. I went to see doctor cause losing ability to be creative scared me more than what taking SSRIs previously did. Exercise once I was on meds helped a tone too.
I hadn't really thought about how little I was interested in until college searches started. Everyone was going for something they were passionate about, something they liked to do. And when my mom asked me what I liked to do... I couldn't come up with anything. I just spend most of my days doing things to keep busy, not actually because I want to. Today I just gave up on pretending and laid there, doing nothing for the longest time. I don't know what I'm supposed to do. I can't bring myself to like anything I used to, or anything new, and I have no idea what I want to do at school, and everything is just stressing me out.
@butterflyweeds it's okay not to know. Maybe go to a junior college and start on general education for something to do...
Ever since my Dr nearly killed me I have lost interest in everything and it hasn't come back in years now. It's beyond depression ...it's actual brain damage and I wish I never met my ex because her controlling nature pushed me to taking dangerous meds.
My Dr was beyond careless and now I'm living with damage you wouldn't believe. I caught him changing his notes to avoid a lawsuit and then he dropped me as a patient because I didn't believe his forged notes.
I have no interest in anything and before I took these crappy meds I was fine...I wish I just had depression because this is a thousand times worse. Psychiatry kills.
@TabbyPhoenix I've been there and I felt sure it would never end but it did.
With three addicted/alcoholic siblings who had zero bounderies and even less empathy there was dysfunction all around me. The pain was so overwhelming that I just went numb. It was like my brain shut down every mechanism I had so that I wouldn't feel a thing. I'd lost hope.
How I healed involved removing myself from the toxic relationships and getting to a place where I was safe. I went back to doing a few simple hobbies that I loved like dancing, singing and playing guitar...the things that nourished my soul. I prayed, I read, I meditated and learned about humility.
These were the things that put me on the road. One day, I painted my nails and looked down and thought "That color looks pretty!" and I started to smile. I realized in that simple moment that I could feel joy again.
Give yourself time and remember that your healing will happen in direct proportion your ability to accept and love yourself as you are.
Well, although I'm basically just existing right now. . I try my best to be there for the ones I love (and haven't left yet) and make myself do what needs to be done. .
I just do what I gotta do... I may be miserable & I feel bad for everyone around me but I'm legit doing all I can by mustering up the strength to get thru the day
@TabbyPhoenix same situation here. . .
What i would say to do is either take a hobby like painting or something you find creative that you might feel interested in or take a interest in someone else and see how that goes. Just try to do something and its okay if you start out small and work your way up! Just keep at it!
