Is anyone afraid to not have depression?

I know this may sound weird, but I'm afraid of not having depression anymore. I've had depression symptoms as long as I can remember, and because of that depression has completely defined my personality. I fear that if I get over this depressive state, I won't know who I am, and people will stop liking me. Does anyone else feel this way?

@BrightRedFlower2322 No problem! I just noticed no one else was talking about feelings like this, so I was curious if other people felt the same way. I wish you luck on battling your depression!

@Parchmento

This is absolutely normal, and I've talked with some people about this before and they all agree: when you're depressed for too long, you're afraid that you'll lose yourself when you don't have it anymore. Every mental illness is VERY cruel because not only people with depression feel like that, but people with any mental illness in general, for example people with eating disorders, personality disorders...

Don't worry, it's not weird.

@alexlove Thank you! I'm glad to hear that it's normal! It just seems so hard to battle depression with these feelings, but now that I know other people have it, I feel that I can try harder. Thank you again.

It's really the length that causes it. You deal with it for a long time, and you get so use to it that it almost becomes a part of you, and loosing yourself can be scary. You just have to remember that your depression isn't truly you or even a part. It's just a cloud that muddle's everything.

Dear @Parchmento

i hear you on this one... Ive had my "setbacks" thrown back in my face so many times making me feel worse than ever making me think that there is a plateau as in weight loss. I get to a certain point of wellness to a point but cannot move forward. Whether persecution from others or self sabotage that i just cant figure out, that makes me feel that i am scared or dont want to get better....

i need off this rollercoaster

I can pinpoint symptoms of mental illness as early as age 7. I'm 38 now. And since I don't have any memories earlier than age 7....

I have bipolar, OCD, panic disorder, social phobia. I've had mental illness my whole life. I'm terrified of life without. I don't know how to be mentally healthy. I don't know who I am mentally healthy.
