Is it normal to be overprotective about my depressed sibling? How can I help her? Is there anyone with similar experiences?
my younger sis is depressed and cutting and I just feel so helpless
because i can’t tell her I love her and I don’t want her to hurt herself because I have known her ever since I was two and I love her and I think she is beautiful and clever and it hurts so *** bad to see how she is drifting away into a hole I cannot get her out
I am reaching out to her, offering my hand, afraid to tell her that I know what is going on with her, because I just know that she will push me away because that is what she always does
and I want to take her away from her two closest friends because they are depressed too and are cutting and she gets her „inspiration“ from them but I know that without them, she will think nobody understands her and she loves them but that is a dead end
and when I see her at school I wanna go and hug her and comfort her because she is autistic and all that noise is just stressing her so badly and I see it and her friends don’t
but when I show her affection she normally doesn’t respond, pushes me away or responds just in a very small way
and I just see know future for this because she still got pretty much school time left and she just isn’t made for all this pressure she is complaining all the time and I see why, it is so stressful and everything, even more for her than it was for me
and every time I hear her scrolling through *** I listen closely, what do the songs tell me about her, is it about depression, is it about sadness, about death, what does her algorithm tell me
and every time I think about this my heart begins to beat so damn fast and if I don‘t feel this way, it is because I am pushing it away from me
i just can’t deal with the fact that my sister, my younger sister, who is barely a teen, feels so bad about herself that she is cutting her own skin
like, we can argue, we can fight, but she just isn’t supposed to die before I do
i am not supposed to bury my own sister
and I am so *** scared that she might not „just be cutting herself“ (as if this is a „just“) but someday will say „I wanna end myself“ and do it
but then sometimes, I think that it might be better because she is not patient and she will not be the one to fight herself through depression
and the second I think this, I hate this thought so badly because what the ***? you think your sis is better off dead or what
but I love her
and I care for her
but how can I help her without losing myself in her black hole too
how do I tell her that I love her without her thinking I am lying
i am just so scared
I am too young for this
lord please help her
help me
please
somebody help me

I can sense how much you care for your sister and how helpless and scared you feel about her situation. It's a tough situation to be in, but it's important to remember that you're not alone in this. You can support your sister in several ways, but it's essential to take care of yourself too.
First, I suggest talking to your parents or another trusted adult about your sister's situation. They can offer help and support to your sister in ways that you may not be able to. Additionally, encourage your sister to seek professional help from a therapist or counsellor who can help her navigate her emotions and provide her with coping mechanisms.
It's also important to understand that your sister's mental health is not your responsibility. You can support her and be there for her, but you cannot fix her problems for her. Don't blame yourself if she doesn't respond to your affection or push you away, it's likely not a reflection of how she feels about you.
Lastly, make sure to prioritize your own mental health and well-being. It's okay to feel overwhelmed and scared, but don't let it consume you. Seek support for yourself from a therapist or counsellor if needed, and take breaks to do things that bring you joy and help you relax.
Remember, you're doing the best you can in a challenging situation, and with time and support, your sister can overcome this difficult time ❤️

I can totally understand how upsetting it all is. Getting others involved is a great idea. Also, just listening over and over again without judging her is good too. The more that you can calmly check in with her the better. @alicethefrog
