Should I tell my therapist about my suicide attempt?
I attempted suicide three years ago, and no one, including my parents, knows about it. Even though I attempted it once there were many close calls.
Now I’ve been having therapy for four months. My therapist knows that I self harmed but not about my suicide attempt. Should I tell her?

Hi Jen, I hope you are well! I am sorry to hear that you've been struggling, but happy to hear that you are seeking treatment! That's a great step and I'm super proud of you! I definitely think you should tell your therapist. You got this! ❤️
I would say it Is essential.
Take care

Hey JenCHo,
I'm sorry to hear about your struggles and that no one knew about them 3 years ago. I'm glad you're receiving therapy and getting help. If I were in your spot I would suggest to tell them. So that they will know how to better help you. I hope this message finds you safe and healthy. ❤️
More than 10 years ago, I had the same hesitant. Wondering if I should tell my GP about my attempt. It had at least been 5 years after my attempt, when I decided to tell my GP. Same as you, no one knew about my attempt (I admitted myself to the hospital, with the help of my counsellor on campus), I think to this day, only that GP I had in the past knows about it (as I haven't ever mentioned it to my family).
It takes courage to talk about it, whether that be to your therapist or anyone else. We see therapists in hopes that it would help us, so, when you feel comfortable enough with yours, do tell her about your attempt~
