What does depression feel like?
Recently a person told me : "I don't understand depression. I mean it's more of just attention seeking ." So depression can mean many things to different people. Many people have their own definition or way of explanation.
It feels like you have no control over your emotions and like at any moment you can break. You feel alone and miserable and like nothing matters. Its unbearable and it doesnt go away just by wishing it does. Its a feeling of something important missing and having no hope of it coming back.
like drowning in a black ocean and as soon as you try and get out a horrible creature grabs you and pulls you down again
It feels like feeling nothing and you just want to end it and believe me i would end it but i can't.
AIN'T NOTHING BUT THIS CARNIVAL OF RUST
Depression feels like nothing is possible and that finishing something seems useless because we are all going to die eventually, so why even try.
Depression, to me, feels like drowning in a pit of tar. It's violently exhausting, it's overwhelming, and eventually, it feels hopeless to even think about climbing out of it. So you just lay back, close your eyes, let the tar fill your lungs, and you're gone.
Depression may feel like:
There's no pleasure or joy in life. A person with depression may not enjoy things they once loved and may feel like nothing can make them happy.
Concentration or focus is impossible. Making any kind of decisions, reading, or watching television can seem taxing with depression because people can't think clearly or follow what's happening.
Everything feels hopeless, and there's no way to feel better. Depression may make a person feel that there's no way ever to feel good again.
Self-esteem is absent. People with depression may feel like they are worthless or a failure at everything. They may dwell on negative events and experiences and be unable to see positive qualities in themselves.

It feels like never-ending sadness and confusion. I feels like you have no control over circumstance or feeling. It feels like you don't want to do anything at all, which makes you feel worse.
It feels dumb because others seem to do just fine, but you're the only idiot who can't get his crap together to just feel good for about twenty consecutive seconds.
It feels hopeless because you know there is no cure, and effective treatment is hard to come by. So all you do is try to talk and talk and talk, but you run out of people to listen very quickly, and no one has a solution.
Your life feels wasted because whatever talents you have are not being used, and each day is just the same feelings and thoughts. Sometimes you even just hate yourself for being a failure.
Were always told that if we stray from places we know and we appear to be lost we must stop, and refill our energy levels, as to not find ourselves in deeper trouble. So we stop and we sit down and take some food and sure it temporarily helps, so we begin to shout for help. But were in a pitch Black Forest with no distinctive features or paths... just trees. So we shout and sometimes people hear and come, but when we ask for directions or help they walk away and you shout in desperation for them to come back but they dont turn back and your voice gets hoarse and eventually vanishes, and not only have you lost your ability to ask for help, but you dont want to, because you understand that people wont help you. Often you feel you arent worthy of help. So you begin to walk, because maybe if you can find someone you can show signs of needing help. You hear people laughing so you approach them, and sometimes they acknowledge your existence and you try to show them you need help, but they cant see the signs, the look in your eyes, and are far too happy to help someone like you.. or maybe they just ignore it. You try to make your way to find others who can help but you grow tired and you try and try but you cant stand any longer. You slump on the ground and you search for food or water to raise your energy but are unable to find anything. This is the moment of realisation that you arent going to get out of this situation alive. This situation is depression.
Depression feels like having to fight when you are low on energy ....when all you wanna do is curl up in bed and stay there. But then you feel guilt and shame , you blame yourself for being weak and not being able to get up and shake the feelings off and enjoy life like others seemingly do. However we know that it is not something you can shake off easily.... its a battle everyday sometimes minute to minute ..and thinking about having to do that day in and day out is tiring so you just lay there wishing it would go away..... but it doesn't.
