What does depression feel like?
Recently a person told me : "I don't understand depression. I mean it's more of just attention seeking ." So depression can mean many things to different people. Many people have their own definition or way of explanation.

to me depression feels like a ton a bricks most of the time, some times it feels like a deep dark hole that keep falling down in as the depression gets worse, differnt masks to get though the depression, thats what it mostly feels like to me with bipolar depression while also raising teen nephew that has same with other SN, it gets hard sometimes with that but think sometimes we understand each other.

Depression feels like misery with darkness, theres no hope. you feel the grieve, guilt, anger, sorrow etc etc
Depression feels like the end of the world. Like no matter what you do, it doesnt matter. Depression always blocks my ideas or hopes. It has a megaphone that basically belittles everything positive that i can come up with. Yelling and screaming at me why its never gonna work. It feeds on my hopes and dreams. It chews them up and spits them out. And laughs in my face as it does it. Depression fools you into it making sense, which is scary because it lies so much that what actually makes sense is false. But i believe it. For some reason anything it says i believe. Depression feels like ur best friend and worst enemy all at the same time. Because it points out negatives with a spotlight and yells them so loud the smallest positive thing u find becomes pointless null and void. Depression feels like u have no hope.
@PerfectStorm426 yes it can definitely feel like one is consumed
@Jamie0906 it feels like all i know.
Depression to me feels like a heavy feeling in my heart and body. My mind just thinks of what is making me depressed at that moment that I am depressed. I have a nostalgic feeling type sad feeling it is kind of hard to put into words, it is a feeling of wanting to be alone but at the same time needing someone to be around. Music is my best friend in depressive times.

Depression is that other dark side of yourself that controls you and your everyday life. It
Depression feels as if you're alone even though you're surrounded by hundreds of people. Being depressed feels as if you're an innocent prisoner being sentence to death for a crime you didn't do. Depression is the worst possible feeling.
@Jamie0906
Depression for me is more than just the general type of sadness that you can feel when something disappointing happens to you. Depression can feel like this constant ache or numbness. Sometimes I'm so fatigued that I feel like my bones could be weighing me down.
Depression can affect your physical being as well and it is important to know when to give your body some love and self-care.
What does depression feel like?
Ironically, I don't think it's possible to answer that question when you're depressed. You can neither be bothered to try, nor able to think clearly enough to find an adequate metaphor.
When I'm depressed nothing matters. I'm just mired in a viscous pool of despair without the strength to wade out of it. Too apathetic to look for a cause, too exhausted to do anything besides just regret existing. It's even a little bit annoying to be asked what depression is like because if you don't know, it sort of makes me jealous enough to dislike you. And if you do know, you'd know better than to ask that question.
My depression tends to feel like there's another person in my head. It's my voice and my thoughts, but I know they aren't logical. I know full well I'm not worthless or unlovable, but whenever the voice in your head is so close to your own voice it's hard to differentiate between what is real and what is the other voice. Other times it feels like nothing. No voice. No feelings, no thoughts. It feels as though my mind has been robbed of itself. Nothing seems to matter on those days. Sometimes I feel so desperate for any kind of emotion, be it sadness, loneliness or pain that my mind drifts to self harm for a taste of something. Anything to escape the emptiness.
im late for this thread probably but depression feels like your drowning and everyone is watching and no one cares i have major depressive disorder too as well as ptsd and anxiety
@imsorryitry i came here to say exactly this. It feels like the world is closing in on you and everyone knows and is watching you drown but no one is jumping in to save you.
