What does depression feel like?
Recently a person told me : "I don't understand depression. I mean it's more of just attention seeking ." So depression can mean many things to different people. Many people have their own definition or way of explanation.
Depression feels like desperately keeping yourself busy every second of every day to stop your thoughts of worthlessness from consuming you.
It's weird because I feel sometimes I can be having a good morning then all of a sudden I get sad or overwhelmed and go into a dark place for the rest of the day. Other times it's like I don't want to get out of bed, eat or do anything. Plus whenever I'm depressed I always isolate myself from friends and family which makes me feel kinda bad tbh. Just when I think things are getting better I get depressed again, so basically it's just a cycle
Depression is feeling sad and down and sometimes for no reason. It feels like Eeyor from Winnie the Pooh. Just gloomy and unmotivated. You feel dead inside like a zombie and just dont care about anything. You want to care about people and yourself but you just dont.
It just feels like hopelessness. Theres no brighter side to anything. Nothing will actually get better. Itll either stay the same or get worse. It feels like no matter how hard you try or dont try, the result is still the same - ineffective. Youll never really trust anyone and deep down nothing will ever make you happy.
Every single breath is torture, you just feel as if you have been forcibly crushed. Everything is screaming inside you making your heart burn with sadness, fear, and anxiety. You don't know who you are anymore and at times you wonder, "How did this ever happen to me?" No one wants to be depressed, they just want to be normal and have a relatively simple life compared to some. When you have depression you either let it hang all out or you hide it under a smile. Why do some people hide it? Because they don't want to be considered "weird" or that you're "just faking it for attention". You don't wish to hurt others around you or lose them so you'll suck it up and put on the mask. There are triggers everywhere. Everywhere. From songs to posters, scents, clothing, patterns, places, voices, anything, and everything can act as a trigger. Maybe it brings back a painful memory, maybe it reminds you of the time you first got depression, maybe it brings back an old friend or a time when things were happier. Maybe it even makes you relate to something you wish you couldn't relate to. You feel trapped and cut off from society. You don't want pity or people's tears, you just want someone to say, "Hey, I'll still be your wingman!" and just hug you.
Hope this helped a bit~!
@RatherCaged I cried so much reading this. Everything you expressed is how I feel today. My heart is so heavy and my head is so messy. Not even crying helps. I hate depression so much
An overwhelming dark crushing weight. You make adjustments to handle it and just when you think you have it, someone/ something makes it heavier. How long can you hold it up before it takes you out and puts you down for good.
Depression feels like someone is holding you under water and you
It feels like you are so weighed down that you don't want to move. You cannot motivate yourself to get yourself going.
It feels like you
