What is something Depression keeps others from knowing about you?
Depression can be good at masking who you really are as a person. It can keep others away and selfishly keep you all to itself. What is something that Depression keeps others from knowing or seeing about you?
I tend to hide when I'm going through rough times, so people don't see me in my bad moments, they just see that I've gone quiet.
I recently started opening up and sharing with friends more, and it surprised me how ready they are to give support, how much they keep going "We care and we want to help you!" (I have worries about burdening people, and my friends have been reassuring on that front as well.). It's something I've missed out on when I went quiet and avoided people instead of sharing that things were bad.
Coming from a cult background where it was taught not to trust outsiders, it makes it hard to share my depression. Plus im a logical person by nature and depression is something that cant be fixed right away so i tend not to share bc a discussion about my problems feels like the shirt or sweater coming being pulled at the seams.

I wonder if Depression fed into that secrecy behind your background and helps to feed that distrust of The Other? I hope there are people who you can reach out to and find support from who see beyond the distrust. I do like the analogy of a sweater ripping at the seams. It is an unraveling sometimes. Thank you for sharing.
Me my iner self how down on myself. The days not leaving the house. Lots more
Keeps them from seeing my true strength because it makes me so weak at times
That I'm not as annoying as I come off.
I'm naturally a very compassionate, tender and sensitive person, but depression makes me angry, aggresive, and apathetic, so that people think I'm this angry unpleasant person, but really I'm a kitten wrapped in flames. I really relate to the movie Moana because I feel like the sweet goddess of creation Te Fiti but when the depression is nigh I turn into the lava monster Te Ka. My whole family thinks I'm angry, my girlfriend thinks I'm just normally irritable, but really I've been in a deep depression funk for the past four years and it's to the point that sometimes I think I'll be this angry person forever. But I have good days, and I do think I'm getting better. Putting myself back together. Still, it sucks that everyone just assumes I'm an angry person instead of cluing into the fact that I'm actually just lashing out because I'm struggling and in pain.
It hides the fact that I am a compassionate perso who is ready to listen and help. It made me isolate myself from others and build this face front that makes me seem mean or not caring while I just don't know how to get close to people anymore.
That Im actually really creative
@Booklover95 this is something my depression keeps me from too. I used to do crafts and now I just can't.
@generousDay8525
I know it's super hard to make yourself do stuff, trust me, but I bet you can! Even just doing little crafts every once in a while is fun and helps you make progress with your depression. I love art and crafts too. :) Something that sounds dumb but is fun: put shaving foam on a plate, put food dye on it, swirl with a toothpick, and put paper (thicker is better) on the foam. Then scrape it off and you have marbled paper! Then you can write a little message or quote on it and put it on your wall.
