What is something Depression keeps others from knowing about you?
Depression can be good at masking who you really are as a person. It can keep others away and selfishly keep you all to itself. What is something that Depression keeps others from knowing or seeing about you?
It keeps others from seeing the real me. Not the faking happiness bs me. It keeps me from making the right choices sometimes which gets me in trouble.
With me, too, I dont usually show depression. I don't want to burden others with all my inner workings. I always have a feeling i'd scare them if I told them about my suicidal thoughts and impulses, or the inner hopelessness and bleakness. I smile, in part for myself so I don't get utterly lost in feeling terrible, but also for others, so THEY feel better AND so they don't know what's up to me.
I really realized that when I had a social worker taking care of me for a while. When I left because all work we could do together was done, they said that I always seemed cheerful. If I remember right, I laughed, even though I felt like crying.
My depression keeps me from showing my depression to people. Ironic I know. I just cant let the world know Im sad
It makes people think I am lazy or often incomprtent, when in reality my energy levels are so depleted that performing optimally just is not possible. However, it is then internally that one kicks and crawls to the hardest extent to get even the most basic tasks done.
When I was struggling with major depression the people surrounding me thought I was always whining about my problems without doing anything (friends I felt comfortable opening up to) so I tried my best to suppress it by not talking about myself at all. Other people thought I'm lazy and I had many fights with my mom who was shouting at me for doing nothing and sleeping too many hours and not studying and that I can't finish my degree... she always kept saying that I have a wrong aspect of life and that my way of acting isn't going to get me anywhere...
Many days I just left home just so that she wouldn't find me there when she got home from work and I wandered around the streets waiting for the time to pass without actually doing something.
Very bad times... looking back nowadays I tend to see my old self as a movie character... I can't relate to that person anymore and I'm so happy about it!
