What is something Depression keeps others from knowing about you?
Depression can be good at masking who you really are as a person. It can keep others away and selfishly keep you all to itself. What is something that Depression keeps others from knowing or seeing about you?
Everything, pretty much. Between my social anxiety and the depression I have. It really keeps me from opening up and repels others from wanting to get to know me.
Wow...what a great question! I tend to see myself as a pretty open, vulnerable person. However, I realize that this is true when I am not depressed :) If I am down, sad, understandably tired, grieving, etc...then I can still share my heart and vulnerability. It is when the darkness falls and the storm clouds roll in that I struggle with truly revealing the dread, terror, childlike fetal position, and admitting how difficult (at times impossible) to do the simplest tasks. I struggle to show my how afraid I am for fear that I will in turn scare those who are closest to me and depending on me. In summary, depression keeps me from revealing the depth, width, and height of my brokenness which in turn does not give others the opportunity to show the breadth, depth, width, and height of their love for me. So, depression attempts to keep me from receiving healing redemption offered from those who care about me the most.
That I have a happy side too
@CassieColemanHepplerLICSW That I can be a fun person.
Depression keeps people from knowing the real me. Even my closest friends and family only know the personalities Ive created to cope. It keeps me from getting help. Aint that screwed up?
@Thisscreenname Not screwed up at all! It's tough trying to be the real you without having to feel like your family and friends are expecting something more or different. It's a constant struggle, but at least you are trying! :)
People don't know that I'm depressed or anxious almost all the time they only see one side of me because I'm too nervous that people will judge me and/or think I'm doing it for attention
It keeps people from knowing the real me. The creative, big hearted, cheerful person I once was.
@generousDay8525
sameeeeee
It keeps people from seeing how funny and bubbly I am.
Depression keeps people I want to invite to get closer to me from getting close. They end up backing away due to my pushing them away out of fear of being hurt, used, or manipulated due to past relationships/not being able to fully express what's in my heart.
@dawnkdb I go through the same things its reallt hard to trust and get close to people.
@Verarose I can relate. Sometimes the solitude seems like a better option, especially if it means not being hurt or hurting someone else.
@dawnkdb I agree. What can we do to make it better? I search for that answer everyday. For years ive tried. I think I need spiritual healing and you may need it too.
@dawnkdb keeps people from knowing who I actually am
@Notenoughusernames Or worse...when they see the side of you that is emotionally a wreck, they run for the hils.
It keeps them from knowing my emotions. From knowing the not defensive me.
