hii so i’m a teenager who is going through a lot in school & out of it and i think i might be depressed but i don’t want to self diagnose without having “evidence” to back me up before i bring it to my parents. does anyone have any advice on how i can tell if i’m genuinely depressed or just feeling sad? thank u

Hello! I understand so much that you don't want to pretend to have a mental health issue, I'd probably look at the DSM-V further. In general, symptoms should include sadness, emptiness, worthlessness, hopelessness, lack of interest in previous hobbies (sports, cooking, exercising, etc), unexplained physical issues (headaches, pain, back pain, etc), trouble remembering things, sleep insomnia, and so on.
If you really want to go with the requirements set by the DSM-V, you'd be experiencing the following: feeling sad, hopeless, and your loss of interest in activities for at least two weeks. It should be accompanied by five other symptoms that I listed above. I'll list a good source where you can read more.
Thanks for reaching out,
Magic-
