Anger and Depression: Do you know how are they related?

Anger and Depression are expressions of frustration and discomfort with reality.

They represent the failed processing of an internal malaise. Someone who is always angry is probably depressed, and vice versa.

Anger and depression are two realities that are often inextricably linked. The stereotype tells us that a person is depressed when he is sad, withdrawn, and more or less impenetrable in his feelings of unhappiness. However, this is not quite the case. This is one facet of depression, but it's not the only one. Furthermore, depression manifests itself differently depending on each person's temperament.

Studies indicate that people who are prone to irritability are more vulnerable to depression. More precisely, a correlation has been established between depression and people who have tantrums.

Anger and depression states often have a common trigger: frustration. This, in turn, arises from an unfulfilled or unfulfilled desire or goal. More than what is not obtained in itself, what triggers the malaise is the lack of resources to process this frustration. Almost always, this situation is accompanied by a poor opinion about oneself and a past with emotional needs.

Anger, depression and unconscious.

From the unconscious point of view, anger and depression are part of the same process. You can almost say they are equivalent. What differentiates one from the other is the object to which they are directed. While anger turns to something external, depression includes the same aggressive feelings, but directed at the person.

Anger and depression come together in a way that is as perverse as they are harmonic, and the manifestations of one and the other are distinct. In anger, particularly when there are attacks or outbursts of aggression, destructive behavior towards the other arises. A process that gives voice to words that offend, minimize or degrade the other.

In depression something similar occurs, only in this case the person directs the verbal violence to himself. It is as destructive as violence directed at others. And it is also often accompanied by direct physical aggression or, at least, attempted aggression. This is the case, for example, with risky behaviors, in which integrity is endangered.

A vicious circle.

The chain of facts that lead to depression often starts with a frustrated desire. The person wants something but doesn't get it and maybe, in principle, it doesn't hit him strongly. But if this situation of wanting and not getting is repeated over and over, a much deeper feeling of frustration is built.

At the same time, this affects the person's self-confidence and their self-esteem weakens. If she doesn't express all of this, this accumulation of emotions stays inside her, overwhelming her, and it can reach a point where it hits her, breaking her down inside.

Having reached this point, it is possible for the person to feel a constant dislike of the world. According to the temperament you have, this discomfort will be expressed as a rejection and a denial of getting involved with things around you. Or the opposite: a tendency to negatively affect the environment in which they live, precisely because the person rejects it. Normally, both forms of expression combine and succeed each other.

Listening and taking on emotions.

Anger and depression are both destructive states, both for those who feel them and for those who live with them. Generally, they lead to unnecessary conflicts and situations of high emotional intensity, which push others away. At the same time, guilt and isolation lead to increased frustration, anger, and depression.

The way out of all this is simple and, at the same time, complex. It's about learning to listen to the emotions that are within us and give them the value they deserve. Not acknowledging these feelings and not letting them be expressed is what turns into an oppressive force that later ends up hurting us and hurting others.

If you feel that these feelings of sadness or anger have turned to shadows, have flooded into you, and you can't get rid of them, chances are you need to express what is happening.

Perhaps a professional has the ability to help you reinterpret what is going on in your inner world. Understand why you want what you want and don't get and how it ends up blocking you. Otherwise, anger and depression will start to dictate what happens to you.
