I need advice Mental Hospital or therapist
My depression, anger, anxiety, and PTSD have been getting stronger. . . I have been thinking of going to a mental hospital as I have been have very dark thoughts.
I will NOT take meds. I took Paxil and my thoughts and nightmares were horrible.
Should I go to a mental hospital or just find a new therapist?
However how do I go to a mental hospital and come out and not have people treat me differently? I don't want my rights or control taken away.
@Rebekahwriter13 I'm not an expert, only a listener here, but it sounds like your situation is pretty severe and getting worse, so I'll share some thoughts with you.
My understanding is that any medication like Paxil works for some people but not for others. There are other medications that act in a completely different way, and you might be able to find one that's helpful. Deciding not to take any meds just because the first one you tried didn't work could make it more difficult for you to find a solution to the whole situation.
I agree with you that there are some risks associated with going into hospital, and they include the risk of forcible treatment and the risk of stigma afterwards. Many people who suffer from depression, anger, anxiety, and PTSD are able to get effective treatment without ever going into hospital.
I also agree that finding a new therapist could be a good idea. Not all therapists are trained or experienced in treating complex and severe conditions like yours, but a few of them are really good at it.

@RarelyCharlie i just hope I can find a decent therapist because I do NOT want meds.
@Rebekahwriter13 Hey hi...I just wanted to say that I agree with @RarelyCharlie.There are alot of different meds out there now and they won't all make you feel the way the paxil did. But a good therapist that can address any problems you have makes a big difference. I changed therapists twice in less than a month. I also understand the stigma of a mental hospital... But sometimes you have to do what you have to do if you're in a bad spot. Sometimes you need that safe place.
I hope things go good for you

When I took paxil I vivid dreams of how I would kill my family. I mean detailed images. I would never think of those things without those pills. They support me even with my moods. I will NOT take meds and get a worst reaction or even worst act on those bad thoughts.
@Rebekahwriter13 I hope you can too. You might find this link useful: Find a CBT Therapist From there you can find therapists whose knowledge and ability have been evaluated and certified. And they use methods that are known to work for depression, anger, anxiety, and PTSD. However, in some places there are very few of them, or none at all, and also they may be expensive compared to less effective therapists.

I'm sorry if I snap over meds, but my experiences were so bad that meds even medicines for aliments cause extreme anxiety for me. They are high on my anxiety and anger trigger lists as none of my family or doctor listened to me when I told them about the side effects I had.
I feel like most of the most make me lose my creative thinking and without that I minus as well not be here. I am a writer that is what I am and I am content with that. I just feel these stupid uncontrolled emotions get in my way. Pills do NOT help these emotions, they just make me sleepy, like a zombie and stuck in my dark world with the worst side of myself.

The worst thing about mental health issues is not knowing where to turn. You have the absolute right to refuse medication as part of ethical healthcare, but you are looking for help- and that is a good start. As far as a mental hospital, you have to first present yourself to a facility that evaluates your condition and a doctor then decides to admit you or not. In most cases, you are not automatically admitted unless you express the thought of harming yourself or others. but the decision for admission is from the doctor, not you. Everything about a hospital visit, mental health related or not is confidential... employers cannot seek that information by law.
Others here on the forum gave you some possible paths to seeking a qualified therapist. I hope you can keep an open mind about your options, but don't be afraid to seek in depth help at some level - your life is precious and you deserve to live with calm peace of mind and purpose. Wishing you well.
@Rebekahwriter13 Hey no need to apologize. I can understand your concern with the meds. I can also understand how upsetting "seeing" these things can be. I kind of have my own problems with that, without the meds. I wish there was something else I could tell you. I know how frustrating finding a good therapist is.
