I've been diagnosed with depression, but sometimes I feel like my life isn't hard enough for me to actually have depression. My life is what people would call pretty good. I've never experienced a death, I've never experienced abuse, and my family is middle class, so money isn't too tight. But yet, I find myself feeling empty and unhappy with my life. When I catch myself feeling this way, I feel guilty because there are people who would love to have my life so I should feel lucky. Idk if I'm just being dramatic or if there's something else going on...

Aww depression is not a one-size-fits-all condition. (This goes for most conditions, if we really see it)
Someone could literally seem to have the most perfect life and yet feel emptiness, as you described, and that's super valid too.
Simply because others have it worse or others cannot understand 'why' would you feel depressed when everything "seems" okay for you, it doesn't mean your feelings or struggles are not there or are invalid.
I can relate with the guilt-emotion, specially when you see someone struggling with something worse, but it may help to remind yourself that no two people have the exact same experiences or responses to those experiences, people can feel the same emotion but it could still vary in intensity, and how they really cope with it.
So you do not need to compare your struggles with someone else, because someone will always either be doing better than us or worse than us, but we aren't someone and they aren't us, so neither of us can truly judge who's struggling "more" or whose pain is more difficult to bear, and since, it's often easier to hold compassion for others than for ourselves, we are likely the ones invalidating our struggles when we compare with others, I feel, which is quite unfortunate. I'm really proud of you for acknowledging how you feel and for trying to reach out for support here. You deserve as much of a safe, non-judgmental and compassionate space to let out your struggles and receive care and kindness, just like anyone else here. 💛
Depression doesn't work that way. Your brain chemicals could be much harder to manage even without other things that life throws at you. Pain comes in tons of forms and you are suffering. All that matters is finding relief. What kinds of things are you doing to care for yourself?@RadioGirl1
@RadioGirl1 awww sweetie, gives you a giant tiny hug ❤ it doesn't matter where you come from, who's rich and who is poor, who's had it easy and who's had it hard. We all feel the same, we all cry the same, and we all hurt the same. So don't feel guilty for being ill, you matter just as much as anyone else ❤❤ be kind to yourself ok?
Honestly I resonated with this post bc this has been something I've been struggling with too. Like I have the makings of a good life and just like you I haven't experienced anything that would be considered that bad.
But depression can happen to anyone anytime. I remmeber someone saying thay depression is like the common cold of mental health which I kinda agree with because lots of people of all shapes and sizes and walks of life experience it at least once.
But honestly I replied to you bc I want you to know your not alone in that and also I was kind of relieved to not be the only one who thought the same thing.
Oh wow this is freaking long but idk bye then good luck <3
