Opening up to friends about Depression- For Teens
Hello! I hope you all are doing well ^-^
One of the hardest part of suffering from depression can be the fact that its not really easy for us to open up about it with friends. Opening up to friends can help them know what you are going through and to understand you better, in turn having a support system in your life.
Though there are various reasons which can make opening up scary and hard process D:
What do you think are some of the reasons opening up can be hard?
Do you have any ideas which might help in opening up to friends easier?
Have you ever opened up about your depression to your friends? If yes, how did it go?
Will love to hear your thoughts on it ^-^
@Pureriver55Hey rivahhhh!!! *Waves frantically*
There are many, many reasons for which opening up is daunting. You don't know what the person's opinion is, how they will react. You don't even know yourself how you feel and what you want so its hard to explain it to someone else. In my case, I didn't even know what I wanted that person to react like! I had basically no idea about anything.
First off, decide on the person you want to tell. Mostly it's someone really close to you as that helps. And remember that it's ok to break down while explaining it. I did. Also, you need not be like 'heyo! So I have depression y'all!!' You're not announcing your birthday plans. I for a while hinted at it to my friends to find out what their opinion was, before finally opening up. But whatever you decide to do, beleive me, its worth it (if that person really cares...)
Yes I have told 3 of my friends, all at three different times. They were all very supportive (although very quiet for some while which made it weird). I haven't told them exactly what I feel as it is hard to explain but they understand. Language of the heart I guess
@black1995
I'm proud of you for telling you friends! You are very brave & strong to be able to do that!!!
@black1995 Haiiiiiiiii! *waves back frantically*
And yes, we never know how their opinions would be towards it! And deciding before saying helps a lot in it! And yes, its totally not as simple as birthday plans
I like idea of dropping hints before bombshell to them! And you are so brave for being able to tell them! Proud of chu!
And hehe heart to heart relation is the best relation! *hugs* Thank you for answering
@Pureriver55
Love this post!!!
I think one of the reasons opening up for me is hard is because I have a hard time describing my feelings. Like I know I feel really bad but i dont know how to say it to someone else. Another reason it's hard for me because I don't like to admit when I'm struggling. Not sure why I just really hate that part.
I'm more sucessful at talking to friends online about my depression than I am in real life. I think it's just easier like on 7cups than in person
Being kind to yourself helps because you deserve to be able to tell your friends about your feelings
@summertimeSamness agreed. I don't know how to put this feeling in words so I don't anyone would 'know' what its like. It IS better here on 7 cups tho! Avoiding Human interaction as long as possible.😅😅
@black1995

Listen to music that makes me happy
