I'm a 13 yo girl, and I just had my yearly physical. I took the screening and was actually quite honest, not fully, but better than normal. then my doctor came in, and in front of my dad, goes "so it looks like you have moderately severe depression". I thought that conversation would be private?? and obviously dont talk abt that stuff with my parents.. so I got really flustered and I almost started crying because, well, I'm really not sure, but instead I just smiled like a psychopath :( now I have to tell my mom and I don't know what is going to happen. I hate talking to people so I really don't want a therapist. I know I'm lucky but I'm scared. thx for reading if u did btw

I know it's hard to open up and today was alot and very upsetting but communication is key, people cannot help or support us if they don't even know we are struggling. Your parents only love and want the best for you and it's a strength to ask for help when you need it. You've got this, truly 💜🥰

@lolorye89 heya! the same happened to me when i was in a checkup and the doctor went "these are signs of depression, consult a clinical psychologist" and i was ready to melt into the ground there...the weirdest part is my parents never really consulted w one till now :/

@lolorye89You didn’t do anything wrong.
The doctor’s timing was just bad.
Your mom will probably just want to understand, not attack you.
Therapy does not mean spilling everything at once. You set the pace.
You are not doomed. This can be the start of feeling lighter.

thank you :) I ended up getting a therapist, she's really nice. I'm still kind of struggling to open up to her abt past things, but I think I'll get there <3

@lolorye89 It is true that talking to someone who's a stranger can be unsettling such as a therapist and it is okay to be scared and overwhelmed by such thoughts but I hope that you can face this challenge because after that it would be your first step walking back towards the light... And remember first step might be the hardest but it is also the most important one
