professional help
its been apparent to me that i need to see a psychiatrist or a therapist for a while but im just really scared to. talking to someone openly scares me a lot, im afraid that i won't really be able to voice my thoughts properly, or that i won't be taken seriously. im also just scared that im beyond help or something and that it won't do anything and ill feel like this for the rest of my life.
mental illness is genetic in my family and my sister and mom already see a psychiatrist and are on medication. i still feel like my family will judge me if i tell them i need help. i don't know what to do because i seriously feel worse everyday and its not improving but im just too afraid to go.
thank you for reading
@plutoprojectorr Hi. Therapists generally make it easy for patients because the therapist knows people can be uncomfortable. There are times in therapy when I don’t know what to say or how to say it, and my therapist will let me sit there in silence until I am ready to speak. Good therapists can help guide you when the conversation gets difficult for you, and they do so in a very caring and gentle way. I think you will find that it is not as scary or difficult once you get into a session.
I was scared too when I first started going. I was nervous about being judged or telling my story. But therapists in general are very kind.
It helped me to think about it as little pieces of a puzzle. First I had to locate someone who could help. That can take a while, especially because therapists are pretty busy right now. So I did just a little bit each day to figure stuff out. Then I got up the nerve to start calling.
You have more strength than you know and you deserve to feel better. @plutoprojectorr
