I
Im not sure what to say. I have no self esteem. I think if I buy new clothes and do my makeup nice Ill feel confident but I just dont. My boyfriend makes me feel worthless and he does nothing but put me down. He always looks at these aesthetic women and although he says he doesnt care about them it hurts me. Because I know no matter how much I try Ill never be good enough. Ill always be worthless
Hey @Tallisbury. Sorry to hear that you're feeling poorly.
I hope you feel better soon, and that at this time you'll be in a better place.
(You don't have to listen to this if you don't want to, by the way. Stop whenever you wish)
It's okay to feel worthless, and you can't force yourself to see another perspective at the blink of an eye. But I want to say it's not true, at least.
But you must have made someone laugh or smile, you must have some insight and love. You must have someone or something you care about, be it people, animals, a belief. You must have dreams. There's probably a million more things I don't know about.
You have worth, to at least me. For those alone. They all belong to you, and no one else but you. Your unique presence is valuable. I can't blame you for feeling badly about appearance however...it's near impossible nowadays.
Consider though, if you had the most 'perfect',' idealistic' and 'superior' appearance. The catch being that it comes at the cost of who you were now.
Well, if it were me I'd say yes. I can't blame you if you also feel that. I still feel it even now. I even tell myself people would actually be happier as well.
From an outsider's perspective though, mine specifically, it's a loss. Your life, feelings, joy, personal quirks, can never be exactly duplicated. It's not even comparable to say the other is better merely because it suits conventional standards...the loss would be irreplacable.
Not that you have to feel it/believe it right away. Even to this day, I still can't. Just wanted to offer an alternative thought. And to let you know that there's something you have that other people don't. I could probably have listed them but I think I already said too much as a stranger. Didn't want to come off super weird (if I haven't already.)
I hope you can feel better about your relationship as well.( I can't say I understand that scenario exactly, I only have experience with family + friends being disappointed in my appearance.)
I hope I didn't overstep too much. Best wishes to you, that things work out
Take care.
@Tallisbury
Hey!
Im sorry to hear that youre feeling this way! Ive struggled with having low self confidence before, but I swear there is a way to overcome it.
If you havent already, Id really recommend you check out the self help guides and forums on here. They might be able to offer some advice and coping mechanisms that will help you.
Some tips Ive found personally helpful are:
-Making a list of non-appearance related things that are good about yourself (i.e. Im a good listener,Im caring, I like to help other people)
-Showing gratitude for your body (i.e. I am grateful for my legs. They take me places, I am grateful for my hands, they allow me to write, draw, and communicate).
-When you treat or think of yourself badly, ask yourself Would I treat a loved one the way I treat myself?
Im not saying these will work for sure, but theyre just some stuff Ive found helpful if you want to give them a try.
As for your boyfriend, it really sounds as though he treats you badly. At some point, youve got to ask yourself, Is this worth it? or Does this make me happy?
You seem like a really sweet person, and you deserve to feel happy. You deserve to be loved and appreciated. You deserve to be treated well by others and by yourself. You are good enough.
Im here if you need to talk! Stay strong!
